things to take
Here's a good question...What is everyone taking with them to SGU? We know we're taking clothes, but what is everyone taking in terms of supplies, appliances, food (if any), cookware, blankets, etc etc etc...
Hopefully some current or past students can contribute and let us know what we really need and what we think we'll need but wont use at all. Thanks to all. |

I'm coming
I am coming! I just got back from a campus visit!
I found off campus housing- but on campus, the rooms and the study areas have outlets that take american appliances. I have starting thinking about supplies- and right now I can only think of the stuff that they have listed in the book. I know that you can buy stuff when you get there- they have a buy back program where students sell stuff before they leave and you can buy it when you get back. I am really excited..I am not sure when to fly down, since Carnival starts around the 8th or 10th- I would imagine that plane tickets would be expensive! |

yes
You can live off campus if you get permission. From the discussions with students who are there now- there are some disadvantages of livign off campus (i.e. missing out on impromptu study sessions- not getting "the hook up" sometimes with old exam questions)...but to be honest with you, for me- I haven't shared a room with someone in a LONG times, and I can't imagine being able to study productively when I have to live with someones feet in my face!
The campus was beautiful and the admin people were warm and freindly! |

what to bring
The SO web site has a good list for what to bring and what not to bring. Here is the link http://www.geocities.com/sguso/welcome.html. When is everyone getting there, and what airlines give the cheapest flights? Has anyone tried the discount code given from the school? I will be flying from LA, so if anyone has found cheap flights from here please let me know. Thanks indn4ever, are you going to the orientation?

about airlines and other stuff
Thanks for posting the SO website, Kevin. It was a real help. Congrats to everyone who got in so far. I am really looking forward to going in aug.
I just tried booking tickets through American Airlines. I was quoted a fare of $810. Can anyone tell me what they paid for their tickets? Has anyone seen anything better in their searches for cheap airfare? NYC-girl, how much did you pay for tickets on your recent trip to SGU? By the way, if anyone is planning on arriving before the 13th, please post it here. As for now, I am planning to arrive on the 13th. But I would be interested in attending Carnival, if some others would join in. Take Care |

recent trip
I paid $805. I bought a package deal through MSW travel, so this included round trip air, 3 nights hotel, and ground transfers. I flew from NYC on a direct flight to Grenada on Air Jamaica.
However, for my ticket in August, the fares are SO much higher- but I haven't checked out the S.O. weblink that was given a few messages ago! |

accepted but have a problem
Here's the problem. MCAT is on aug 16th, first day of classes is aug 18th. Help!
Do I understand this right? You got accepted before you took your MCAT? Do you just have to take it before you start, or am I missing something here?? Thanks in advance, Jeff K |

Kevin and Jeff
Hey Kevin, I would like to go to orientation but I never received notice of it. When is it again? Also, the link you posted for things to bring doesnt seem to be working, can you re-post? Thanks!
Jeff- From what I understand, you cannot get accepted before SGU sees your MCAT score. This is what Dean Madden posted on another thread a while back. You should call SGU and see what the deal is and if you can get accepted for the Fall term. I hope this helps. Lastly, as for airfare, I havent even looked into that yet. For the American Airlines airfare with the SGU discount that people are looking up...is that round trip ticket for 90 days of stay only or is it a longer time? I ask because most great deals only let you stay on the island for 90 days, which is of course not enough for us. Any info on this? Thanks all |
