great job guys! looks like this should be a good match season for us...

one question... what do people mean when they say unopposed program?

also did any of the current interviewees apply and interview in places that require ecfmg cert at the time of applying?? i've heard mixed experiences that you can apply and send out emails explaining that you will be certified and give them a timeline of expected graduation/certification etc... is this true from your experience- did you get interviews at such places? did they bring this up as an issue? i was surprised to see that maimo im does that... considering their long hx with sgu...

Unopposed mean they are the only residency at that hospital. If you are going for family, your best experience will be at an unopposed program. We don't have to fight other residents for patients or procedures. Like for our OB, we get all the delivers for the 2 OB groups here in town plus our clinic patients. I reached my required number of deliveries for the entire 3 years (40 total; I have 41 vaginal and 17 c/s) well before Christmas (less than 6 months) except for my continuity patients. We also do all the peds patients too.

I'll be honest, I didn't read far enough back into this thread to see where Maimo IM comes up with requiring your ECFMG certification already. Either way, I know first hand that Maimo IM will interview people from SGU who don't have their ECFMG certification yet but are expected to graduate in May/June 2012.

FYI -- don't really think Maimo IM should really be considered your pinnacle of IM programs out there *cough*probation*cough*...that's a matter of subjective (and ACGME) opinion
