    Decelling

In which terms can you decel? By this i mean drop courses at the start of the semester. I have heard Term 1 and Term 4. Are these the only terms?

Decelling is not as you describe. It is typically (I mean 95% of the time) done after midterms or the 2nd set of exams out of 3. That is when you drop the class. This can be done in any of the 5 terms. Very few, if any (I would suspect) drop a class before attempting it.

    What exactly is IAP, then?

IAP is what you are enrolled in if you decel. For federal loans, you need to be enrolled in a minimum number of credits, so IAP helps make up those credits as well as teaching you study skills, etc. since something obviously wasn't working.

You can be enrolled in IAP your first term actually...for some students that get accepted with borderline MCAT or GPA...they take biochem only first semester or just Anatomy only...and then the following semester they take the remainder of the term 1 courses

These people might be dually enrolled in another program i.e. MBA... not necessarily IAP.

I wouldn't suggest it voluntarily joining IAP.

there are also ppl who decide to just take path by itself or micro, nutrition, cpd by itself and then the other after in the 2nd 4th term....this is usually done when ppl are in danger of falling below the 2.5 gpa requirement

so yes, you decel before you actually take a course, but if u do this way, then you wont have a DROP mark in your transcript should you opt to decel once enrolled in the course

Is there a limit to the number of decels you can do? I heard that they will expel you if you don't complete Basic Sciences within 3 years.

You basically get 2 decels before they kick you out since you will not finish the basic sciences in three years.

But also remember you need to take Step 1 within 3 years as well. Not that this should affect a lot of people, but if you decel twice in the Jan class, you have about 4 weeks over the holidays to study and take it.
