    SGU- January 2012

I thought I would create a new thread for all those who are planning to attend SGU in January 2012! I know it is kind of early, but we can begin to network with each other throughout the process.

My admissions tutor told me that new rules from the dept of health are that everyone has to take the MCAT, not just American students

All North American students have to take it, but those from the EU, Africa, and Caribbean do not. It's not part of their system. You may not have to report it.

i.e. if you went to school in N. America you have to take it even if you're not a N. American citizen. (Just to clarify.)

Yes. If you went to undergrad in the US or Canada, then the MCAT is then required (though it sounds like Britmed did not do that.)

That's not what the admissions website says.

    For North American Applicants
All North American applicants must submit MCAT scores.

    For British Applicants
    1. A bachelor’s degree with a strong science background is necessary.

    2. Applicants with passes at the Advanced Level of the General Certificate of Education will be assessed individually and will be considered for entry into Year 3 of the premedical program.

    3. If English is not the principal language, the applicant must have achieved a minimum score of 600 (paper-based), 250 (computer-based), or 100 (internet-based) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), or a 7.0 overall score on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

I think you need to talk to someone else besides this one admissions counselor. I really don't see why the MCAT needs to be taken by students who are part of a completely different education system. Especially if you applied while those above rules were what was published, since then those are the rules you should be admitted under.
