Also, thanks to everyone who gathered all of the information regarding classes starting ontime. That is great news! Feel free to PM me anytime. Nice to meet everyone. Aggiegirl **-Biology University of Texas at Arlington-2004 BBA-Marketing Texas A&M University-1999 |

i got a few questions i'll throw up on here that maybe we could get the answers for: 1. did anyone from the jan 05 class, get their financial aid papers yet? 2. will we have pre-orientation in NYC, like the previous sessions did and which date that will be? 3. which books should we bring along for 1st term that will not be supplied, ex. BRS, first aid. 4. anyone find a good source yet for airline tickets to grenada, let us know. thought i'd post here as alot of you probably have the same questions. wait, why is this thread so dead. o well, i guess everyones getting their sleep before semester starts.. k see ya. |

SGU in Jan
Hi, hkny79,
Nice to meet you. I also live in NYC. When I called my admin counselor, I was told that 1) we get our financial aid package in November. 2) I attended the orientation some time in July in Manhattan, just before the Aug class left. It was very helpful. I was accepted for the Jan class in the last week of June. 3) I've bought the BRS Gross Anatomy by Chung and started reading. I think it'll be much more helpful when we start school. Well hey, it's suppose to be for REVIEW, right? 4) for airline tickets, I think American Airlines has the best prices but I'd prefer to take Air Jamaica because it's a direct flight to Grenada. |

financial aid
Here is an e-mail I received from a financial aid counselor....
"The financial aid package will be mailed early October however you can do several things without the package: First do the Entrance Interview (do this step only if you have NEVER borrowed Stafford loans, if you have skip this step)at: mapping-your-future.org (the school code is G22333) Do your FAFSA at: www.fafsa.ed.gov (you are an independent student and do not have to fillout the parental information) then do your Master Prom Note, the link follows: https://olmpn.glhec.org/webapp/FastM...5&SMSESSION=NO You will sign both of these, (MPN & FAFSA) with your pin#. If you do not have one or have forgotten it please go the the following website: Pin.ed.gov You should also check your credit score, a score of 650 or better is fine, if it is lower call us, go to: myfico.com (request a 3 credit report with scoring, the cost is $39.95) Send us the Financial Aid Request Form and the Ed-Invest Private Loan Application to get the process going. At a later date you can send the Health Insurance Form, the Scholarship Ap and the Disclosure and Consent Form." I hope this helps anyone who may be wanting to get started

hey everyone this is my first post! can't wait to see everyone in January! me and at least 22 others from Trinidad will be starting then. I'm really excited but extremely anxious. I visited Grenada and SGU 3 years ago, and fell in love with the campus, I can't wait to be living on the beach LOL I really hope things will be back to normal on the island by then, I've heard from students and seen the pics of what's happened over there. We barely missed Ivan just before it headed to Grenada.
I've heard people ask about admissions decisions, I was interviewed last november, got accepted for Aug 04 since February, and deferred it to Jan 05 (technical reasons). I can tell you, between late November and early January I was sending off emails at least once a week to my admissions counsellor until I got an answer about the admissions committee decision. On another note, anyone doing any laptop shopping yet? If anyone comes across any good deals either in the US or the UK, let me know? Also is anyone in the Jan 05 group buying their medical bags yet? or waiting till we start clinicals? Basically, what is everyone doing to prepare themselves for first term? Academicwise and otherwise? |

I havent purchased the medical bag, and I've heard that we wont need that until clinicals. But then I think I also read on here that we might needt the Littman's stethoscope. So at the most, I might get the stethoscope. Apart from that, I've just been taking care of miscellaneous stuff: getting vaccinated, will be taking my physical tomorrow, etc.....and just surfing this site and compiling a list of things to bring down.... Also, I'm wondering if I should try to learn how to cook food...I wonder what the food situation will be down there post-Ivan...hopefully the local restaurants will still be around.... Academically, I've just been browsing BRS Chung's anatomy....I think i've been browsing the first chapter for the last month. Yes, I sleep easy that way.

jan 05ers
hey y'all
i will be heading to the rock come jan. as well. cant wait to get there really. i am also a poker player so count me in. ill bring down some poker chips. i have read on other threads that some people advice not to study much since that is almost all we will do once we get there, well with the ocassional hand of texas hold'em and some 5card stud. i read it could be discouraging to read through pages and pages of biochem and then get to the rock and see what you went through in a month to be covered in one day of class. i do think i will review anatomy though and get a headstart on that since it is more memorization than anything else. as for computers, the last laptop i bought i bought directly through the toshiba website and have been very pleased with it and it was the best deal for the money and features.its been three years and the keyboard is fading so i will scoop a new one up before jan. , one word of advie though if anyone does go through toshiba do it with some time before jan. because they run out of stock and it could be a few weeks before you recieve it. |

laptops and such
I'm still looking for a decent laptop myself. So far its dell.com that has the best deals, but then im not too impressed with their cheaper models with intel celeron processors. If anyone finds a deal lets us know! And did I hear poker!!!!! Count me in too!!!
