A bunch of weird questions about life on the island....
I'm a potential applicant to SGU and had some random questions about life on the island. Let me know if you have any answers for me!
1) Is it difficult to find a house with a fenced yard for renting? What would you say the approximate cost of a 2-3 bedroom house is? Furthermore, is there an area where many SGU families live in homes? 2) Is there a meat market on the island? I'm a vegetarian, but my dogs are on a raw meat diet and of course I have to go about the icky task of finding meat for them. They mainly eat turkey necks and backs and other weird parts that you can only find in a meat market. 3) is there an orthodontist on the island? Thanks all!! Stacy |

What are the rules for the caribbean in terms of pets (shots, transport, quarantine etc.)? I would imagine it would be reasonably easy to get a pet to the caribbean but what about taking it home? Do you have to leave your' dog at Guantanimo? If so it may take an Upper Court ruling to ever see it again...
Could be worse than being a turkey connoisseur having to rely on chicken; You could be going to school out toward the Pacific Rim where it truly is a "dog eat dog" world... |

Here is the info on transporting pets to Grenada.
http://www.geocities.com/sguso/bringingpets.html And so long as you get a 3 year rabies vaccine before you leave the states, you will be fine to bring them back. And no, my pets aren't Cujo, they're 3 sweet greyhounds, actually (see below). One of them has a wheat allergy and the vet told us to switch to raw foods; we did, and he did so well on it that I put the other dogs on it as well. They'll adapt to chicken fine as well, just wanted to know if I could get some of those "spare parts" in bulk. By the way, it's not one of my "top three' priorities, I'm just trying to get some info. No word yet on housing? Thanks everyone for their help!!! Stacy ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Island Meat
I've never had a problem finding chicken on the island, but beware, meat is much more expensive there than here. Your dogs' diets may end up costing you more than your groceries. I don't know how much housing costs but I will say that I've seen very few houses with a fenced in yard. We rented a vehicle and drove around the island at the end of last term and I can only remember seeing a couple houses (incredibly nice houses) with fences.

meat..
in SVG Mr. Trottman and the SVGMC supermarket was giving me 1 1/4 lb T-bones for like three bucks..... goood steaks. Grenada is very expensive for meats...very. Honestly... I moved to pork... I had soo many pork chops.. actually their pork tenderloins were really good. My recommendation...with food...and Grenada in general...is to get off campus for a term...and get a car...the access to school,...home...supermarkets and restaurants provides such a break to the cycle of bus-class-lunch-class-bus room.... I used to head out the caranage for an early dinner at Tout Bagay...and open walled 2nd story restaurant and the 'mouth' of the bay...or up to La sagesse for a quite meal overlooking a completely private beach...great sand. Besides...food from the supermarkets cuts your food costs to about a 1/3 I figure from campus meals.
