interesting....was there a change? used to be that you had to file an LOA if you started more than 6 months after leaving the island...will that get noted in your MSPE?

not too sure abt the whole deal. They just kinda sicced the requirement to file an LOA w/o explaining much.

I think this may have something to do with the whole credit crunch. Terms of the loans may have gotten stricter.

We had to take a LOA if our rotations didn't start before May 25th last year. St. Joe's started June 1st.

Long story short - if you start on time then the LOA won't be granted.

Longer story - if you don't start clinicals on time then the university has to withdraw you = no longer a student. Life works a lot easier (loans, etc) if you can avoid unnecessarily withdrawing. To that end, they ask all the students to file for a LOA. If you show up for clinicals on time, then the LOA request isn't granted and the form goes into the trash. If you don't start on time then they grant your LOA and you're still a student until you hit the 6 month mark. It also saves the university the hassle of trying to hunt down students at the last moment who might need to file an LOA.

That how it was last year. Orientation week before memorial weekend and first day the tues after. Orientation started may 26th bit they said it goes on first day of rotation not orientation. We just had to send and email to someone (can't remember now) saying we were waiting for rotations to start. Maybe it wasn't an actual loa but the email called it a loa.
