Thread: Charter Foundation

I'm applying for Jan 2010 MD program and was recently granted an interview. I received an email saying I would be considered for the Charter Foundation Program as well, which is fine, but the email stated:


"Upon receipt of a grade point average of 3.2 for this term and passing the Premedical Science Comprehensive Examination (PMSCE), you will be allowed to register for the Doctor of Medicine course in January 2010."


It is already September 2009. If I do get accepted and they place me in the Charter Program, how will I still be able to register for the MD course in January 2010? Didn't the Charter program already start a few weeks ago? Not to mention, it will still take time to actually give my interview and for them to make a decision.

no. you'll be doing foundations on january 2010. either accept it or attend another school. i'm not sure if anybody has successfully requested their way out of it

I think it's a mistake. They have to update these every term and it would be quite easy for them to have failed to change that date. If you start Foundations in January 2010, you would start Term 1 MD program in August 2010.

Definitely a typo. I recently got an email reading Health Forms for August 2009 MD class . They probably just forgot to change the dates.

Yes, you actually do go through an interview for the charter foundation program. I've heard different things from different people. But for the most part, it's not too difficult. They ask you general questions and try to get to know about you as a person. The thing that really helped was to be myself. You should do the same.

As far as preparing for the charter foundation program, all I can really say is be prepared for the worst. For example, don't panic if you don't get your luggage on the first day here. Or if there's no hot water in the dorm, don't freak out. Things like that. Academically, the course load isn't too difficult. A lot of it is just review material from undergraduate studies.

Basically, if you do decide to go through with it, life will be much easier if you learn to take your time. The pace here is amazingly slow. I mean really, really slow. If you have a good sense of humor, living on the island will be fun and productive. Well, that's all for now! Hope this all helps!

my interview was for med but was placed in foundations. some people got an explanation of why they were placed in foundations. others like myself didn't. hehe...expect this kind of inconsistency in sgu
