bad things happen when anger is involved

Hi,

If you couldn't tell, my post on Monday was tinged with anger and general irrationality, which, in retrospect, I'm ashamed about. I still do feel though that the exam was unfair in the sense that it was not a good measure of what we were emphasized to know. Don't get me wrong, pathology is the most amazing, most fun and most interesting course I've ever taken in my life. See, for the first time in my life, on Monday, after working really hard, I was not rewarded for my studying, something that really put me off and make me feel humiliated. To Nimitt, believe me, I know better enough that pathology is not a course that teaches you to regurgitate information and spew it out. By nature, I've always been a thinker and a reasoner and am not really good at blurting out random facts without an understanding. To Dr. Nick, your survey is a little skewed, as those I've talked to in my term agree that there was a bit of unfairness involved, I'm not the only one complaining. Well, I just wanted to apologize to all of you if you thought I was being a little too harsh and not a positive influence on what to expect in the 4th term. Take my previous statements with a grain of salt and understand the situation in which it was written, it was the same day of my exam, I was exhausted and humiliated about my performance and angered that I lost my A. The emotional nature of the post does consist of rather uninhibited, yet unpolished truth (my personal truth may be different from yours), but overall, I'm satisfied with the course and I know that in the long run it will only help me do better on my boards. Good luck to all of you.....now I've gotta make MICRO my female dog.

There hasn't been a single test i took this term (2nd) that i felt was a good measure of what we were emphasized to know. Sorry that you failed your path exam, however, atleast you're not failing the class. Even when i've missed a B by a couple of points, i always tell myself, "atleast i wasn't a couple of points short of passing the class."

I still don't understand why SGU still uses the A,B,C grading system. Many med school use other scales (like pass, high pass, honors, fail) and don't have a GPA. On the other hand, SGU uses the GPA to set standards and they don't want you to "just pass" your classes. Even still, there are way too many people here who are only concerned about their GPA and not about learning the material well.

The reason is because a GPA is a more definitive thing for a school to look at when considering an sgu student for transfer.

More like a single test all year!!!!!! They love to test minor details.
