Sending a thank you letter after an interview.

    Advertisements

After you get an interview, should you send the interviewer a thank you letter?

Is it ok if you email the letter if all the communication between you and the interviewer has been done through email?

And what should the format of the letter be? links or examples would be appreciated.

I sent my interviewer a short thank you email. Email seemed appropriate since all of our communication was done that way prior to the interview. The email I sent was:

    Dr R:

Thank you for taking the time yesterday to interview me for St.
    George's University.

I appreciate all the time you took in answering my questions about the
    university and your specific experiences.

I look forward to receiving the decision from the admissions committee.

    Sincerely,

I sent an email thank you note, but I also had a fairly recent grad for an interviewer. For an older interviewer I probably would have sent a written note. If you are really debating and you have a mailing address send the written note. You definitly can't go wrong with that.
I don't have any links but my note include a thanks for her time and a few references to what we talked about. Something about appreciating gaining her insight into SGU and being a FMG. Just a few sincere, sentences will suffice. IMO the thank you note is more of a polite gesture / custom. You should write one to demonstrate you appreciated the interviewer taking time out to talk to you and to show your interest and enthusiasm in the school. I don't think it's going to have any earth-shattering affect on your application....unless you don't send anything.
    Good luck!

If I sent one they would probably take away my acceptance due to grammar. I have a few years to work on it.

After an interview it is really important to send in a thank you. For some people its really important and other its not as. But its always a good thing to send it though.

Yeah I had at least 3 attendings and 1-3 residents at almost all the places. I didn't send a thank you card to the program I didnt rank.
