PathoPHYs GI
I hate to complain again, but the GI guy is not doing it for me.
Even Dr B doesn't defend him. He looks like a thinned out Rush Limbaugh with gynecomastia and has more GI vignettes than a cruise ship coming back from Mexico. Let's get some power points printed and stop with the GI war stories. Seriously this guy would make Rambo blush with way he talks about single handedly stopping hemorrhages with his handy dandy "hemoclip". |

since the other thread is locked and i already typed this up....here goes
Quote:
cancel clinical skills second term add new cpm course second term add micro tbl (but we got really lucky getting those bonus points) add bsfcr add exammaster add crazy cardio guy teaching step 2 stuff that fits my definition of being guinea pigs. we didn't boo him (the SGA rep) because he was trying to express his opinion. No, the questions were not directed to him yet he was responding to them. If you note, no one boo'ed when one of our classmates mentioned exammaster being wonderful or even the last guy's question on reducing previous semesters lecture notes so that term 2 gets the equivalent of a brs book in size of notes rather than the amount they currently get. Even if it was dumb or we didn't agree with it, no one boo'ed these people. What the SGA rep did was speak when it wasn't his place to. Last edited by xentar; 10-07-2008 at 08:29 PM. |

fair enough, but we also had alot of things that no one else has anymore:
- Dr P spoon feeding up in Histo, and making an A a joke - Dr C running the Anatomy department, and doing an amazing job - Having Dr M teach parasite, who i hear no longer teaches - Having Dr H teach us in Neuro, who i hear no longer teaches - Physio was awesome, except for the GI section therefore, sure, we have recently gotten somewhat screwed, however, we have had it pretty easy for a while |

People in our term aren't asking for good teachers anymore. They just want to have clear/reliable objectives for the franksteined classes that have been put on our plate, so that they can TEACH THEMSELVES. All of those classes youve listed above provided those things, including every other class we had. It is not much to ask. Lastly, just curious are you one of the two ppl that Dr. B mentioned who brought the Mac daddy to him for brownie points? Just wondering. Last edited by Cotterpin_Doozer; 10-07-2008 at 09:11 AM. |

I'm glad we got a chance to interact with dr. r and dr. p. I'm not sure if anything tangible will come from that meeting, but even if no changes happen for us, they'll hopefully happen for the next semester. Especially for the small stuff (sonic foundry, guest lecture handouts being screened, general organization) |

then every class is a guinea pig class, because let's see MY class had Dr. H (of the Doctor Factory roman a clef fame) teaching Biochem, which was one, not taught as a med school biochem class but a PhD level class and two, was of very little help come step I time(and there is a lot of biochem on step I)...26 out of 325 people got As in that class...<10% of the class...and no curve ever in place.. Full Dissections in Anatomy Wetlab 3x week with an oral quiz at the end of each and every wet lab session...we were graded on the quality of our dissections and were quizzed by the profs...they came around to each and every table (we were the 1st and last class to have this and it counted as 50 out of 350 possible points)+ a Dry lab 3x week as well. The Anatomy Lab was open 24/7 because people spent on average 20-30 hours outside of lab doing their dissections... the 1st paring down of the Anatomy Companion from a full fledge syllabus to basically an outline... an additional class in 1st term - embryology was a separate 2 credit class, and only worth 130 points, so you could only miss 13 points and you lose an A...39 points...you fail.... Neuroscience, with the a grading scale based on a Z score...you had absolutely no way of knowing what your score was and what your grade until it was posted... and while we had Dr. K and Dr. N for physio...it was taught without a syllabus for a while (and without a text) since everyone left their syllabi (including the physio dept) in grenada and we were in LI oh and for both of those classes..no small groups, so the grading scale was change a month and a half into the term....then of course the Neuroscience dept decided to shove a term's worth of small groups in the last 2 weeks of the term (changing the grading scale yet again) while we were more concerned about studying for finals- and scheduled them in the evening to boot (so if you lived off campus you had to drive in rush hour traffic in LI to get back to campus) Immunology taught, 1st by wacky j++++, over the whole course of a term, with handouts that had lovely white boxes where pix should be (copyright issues-sound familar?)... oh then having parasitolgy and genetics start in december in LI then finish in GND in the middle of january...with an exam pretty much 2-3 days after we got back to GND...so the 10 days (yes TEN days ) we got off for christmas break were spent with 2 exams hanging over our heads.... and that was just 1st year...you know the year you are spoonfed.... would you like me to go on...? i understand your frustration, but don't think for one minute you are anything special and that your class is at any greater disadvantage than the rest of us...
