My first visit to the island

I took the school up on the 'school sponsored' visit and just returned from the trip. My husband and I were on the island Tues-Friday. Our flight was loooooooong but fine. We were supposed to stay at the Grenada Grand as Regina at MSW had arranged, but when we arrived they had no record of our reservations. Even after I produced our confirmation # they still did not know who we were, and what's more- they were totally booked. I was a little frazzled at that point and called the school and they re-routed us to True Blue Bay for our stay. Now I have to get in touch with reach Regina to get all the financials worked out - what a pain- this could take years!!! Anyway, after that small bump in the road everything went fine.

We toured the school the next day and I was truly impressed. The campus was a lot bigger than I'd envisioned and the facilities were fabulous. I have some experience with the Boston Univ. med library and anatomy labs and I was just blown away by how much nicer SGU was in comparison. I don't know how people manage to study with all the beautiful, but distracting views from the library.

My husband will be joining me on the island and so we were signed up for the married student housing out at the round houses. We checked it out and decided that we couldn't live there- or at least we didn't want to-so we did some leg work and managed to find an apartment in lance aux epines. Over twice the size of what the school was offering a cheaper too- but I think we just lucked out. Our SO tour guide gave us the number of his landlord and things just fell into place.

We rented a car and took Grand Etang (one of the scarier rides of my life) over to Grenville (where my husband will be doing an unpaid internship in rural education development at the St. Andrew's secondary school). I'm so glad I got see more of the island than the area right around Grand Anse. The other side of the island is a bustling market place with beautiful churches, gorgeous scenery, and some colorful characters. It generally felt less touristy which was nice (but it could have just been that the tourists were on a different schedule). I walked around the area for a couple of hours while he was in meetings and I found the locals to be incredibly friendly. Overall, it really reminded me of being back home in Alabama where you wouldn't pass anyone on the street with out a 'hello'.

I also had the chance to meet many students and SO's from both the med and vet schools. I met a few at Nick's and a few at Stuart's Bar. They were all friendly, and more importantly they were all happy they had chosen SGU. I'm glad I took the opportunity to go for a visit. It's made me all the more confident that I'm making the right choice.

I know several other prospectives visited this past week- what did ya'll think?

great place

Hey buttons, glad you enjoyed your stay. I really like true blue, i hope you did too! I am glad that you branched out and went to look at some other places. My wife will be coming down with me as well. Would you mind sending me a PM? I am interested in this internship thing your husband is doing. If you have time, that would be great.

Trust me. You don't want to drop everything right now and start next week. After the first week, you'll be wishing you were back home.

visit SGU

Hi,
I am interested in visiting the school- does SGU finance the trip? How much are tickets getting there? I am starting in August and haven't heard a thing about these visits! Anything else to know about coming in? Recommendations to where to live 1st term? Is anyone as nervous and anxious?
thanks!

travel reservations

The school will reimburse you for the costs of the flight and 3 nights accommodation if you ultimately enroll at the school, But you must book through MSW travel by contacting Regina Cardigan at :
Regina@mswli.com

I imagine the cost depends alot on where you fly from. I am flying from Boston in May and it cost $750, its probably about 50 bucks cheaper if you fly direct from NYC.
