Internet Access in lettered Buildings

I had read this morning that some of the lettered building did not have internet access ports in the rooms. Is this true? I am living in V building across from Glovers this coming up term and that will suck if I don't have access in my room.

Thats true. Some are currently being outfitted with network ports, but most of the lettered buildings do not have neither wireless nor ethernet ports working.

Most people in these locations need to setup DSL lines with C&W. I would call them and see what it would take to get it installed before you get down there - as some say it takes around two weeks.

You can also see if the current residents have wireless and if they would be willing to sign it over to you (you want them to actually sign it over as its significantly cheaper and requires less time) before they leave.

I would also call the housing office here in GND and see if theyre going to install ethernet jacks in V before you get down here.

If you do end up going the C&W DSL route, make sure you bring down a good wireless router such as Linksys's WRT54G.

Isn't it kind of ridiculous for them to expect us to get internet service on our own? I mean i am paying a heck of a lot for my dorm and all the Superdorms have access.

Well, they didn't always have internet. And we still payed the Super-rent. Don't worry, they will eventually get internet in all the dorms. But probably not by the time you get there.

Best bet - first call the housing office down here and see what the situation is and then start looking at getting C&W setup in your place (or transferred from previous owners)...

Internet

I had Internet access in the T building from the time I arrived in January 2008. I also believe that a friend of mine in M building had Internet via the school. There may be a few building that still don't have Internet, but it's becoming rare (the notable exception will be the new Superdorm 6, which will probably not be ready for when students arrive in August). Do phone the housing office to find out, if you're concerned. Let me know if you need me to PM you their contact info.

Tip: If you live in L building first or second floor with the corner room in the corner suite closest to the chancellery, you can access the wireless internet most of the time.
