    Academic Enhancement Program??

hey guys, i was just accepted to SGU, but into their AEP. I was just wondering if anyone on this board is in this program or if anyone has knowledge about it. My main concern is that, if i am in this program, since i begin in Aug 2003, i will also graduate in august right? Because i heard that as part of the AEP i will graduate instead in December, because i.e isntead of taking 4 classes i will be taking 3 classes and so forth.

When i read my welcome packet it just states that as part of the AEP i just have to attend some extra get togethers weekly thats all. So i just want to make sure, if that is true or not.

    AEP

    Oh No!
I was accepted ino that program too! Where did you hear that you only take 3 classes a term? I thought that AEP just meant that you have to get a tutor and you have to meet with someone so that they can monitor your progress and keep you on track!
Nobody has said anything to me about graduating in December!
    Yikes

ah ok. thats what my dad told me too, but during my interview i was told otherwise. Maybe it was a different program. But i distinctly do remember being told that i will have to spend an extra semester on the island. There is no way in hell i am going to go for that. I rather just go to ross then.

    AEP

AEP just monitors your progress and requires you to go to tutors.
    Its actually a great help.
If you do a masters in public health..then you get to stay an extra semester. but if you only have the AEP then you dont have to worry...its just a program that forces you to go to a tutor and get help this way you get good grades.
    anyways i hope this helps
see ya at SGu in AUg.

    AEP

I don't think that cut offs really matter. From people that I have spoken to, there is no stigma attached to being in this program. Basically, I think that it is some sort of program that ensures that you will do well ( and who would pass that up?).
The worst that it could do would be having someone on your butt to make sure that you are on top of your game all of the time so that you can keep your grades up...and if you are doing that, all the frustrations will be elimintated!

    dont worry

From what I have read in the old forum about this, is that it really helps you do well in your classes and most people go to the extra study sessions even if they don't have to. It is no big deal, just get there and work your butt off and everything will be cool.

    aep relax

let me offer you assurence that being in aep doesnt put you back at or nor does it confer cootie status upon you. i am a bit annoyed that most people who are taken into aep seemed confused about these issues and many actually seem to think that it is some sort of accelerated program. it is nothing more than mandatory tutilage to get you up to speed to perform well on the boards, and close monitoring of progress. many opt to take tutoring sessions who aren't in the program. i hear they are quite good. good luck.

    AEP

I also heard that it is really good at preparing you for the boards, do you really think that it is true? Or is it that it indirectly helps you with the boards because it helps you do better in your classes?
The reason why i am asking is because I have been so paranoid (as you cold have probably aeen in one of my earlier messages) that performance on the mcat is a predictor of your board scores. I heard that this programs helps to gear your thinking about medicine in way that helps with the boards.
