Not that I would ever want to accept anything from Dr. B, who I feel to be one of the most useless profs on campus. We all know that this award is a joke and most of the people in my class knew who was going to get the best path student AND best path group on the first day of class...it wasn't hard to predict and no-one was shocked at all when it was announced in class.

Oh, and to back up the step scores, white kids can do very well on the exam also. There are several in my class who got over 99, including myself (259/99). There are also lots of Indian kids who did well, and Asian students and African and Caribbean students...we have smart people in our class that come from everywhere and they are more driven than many other medical students b/c we have something to prove when we go back home.

To wiseman07, I hope you got permission to be posting the names and scores of those students on here, I know the first 2, and I'm pretty sure that they don't want this info posted up on this forum. It's one thing to hear it from their mouth and tell them congrats, but quite another to post it all over the internet with their real names for everyone to see.

WOW! Great job.

I know you have probably told us before a million times, but could you tell me specifically what you did to get over 100% in path. I need to do well just to get a C on the third test.

What should I do?

Handouts?
<edit>
Robbins Review Questions?
Look at slides?
WebPath Questions?
Goljan audio?
Read Robbins?
Talk to tutors?
Make appointments with Dr. B (MRS) and Dr M?

I know I can't do everything. What would you do, if you didn't have a friend who was willing to tutor you 30 hrs a week going into the final?

Also how did you review for step one? Kaplan, Falcon? Usmle world?

Thanks

well, like I always say in my posts, you have to find stuff that works for you...obviously, what you've been doing hasn't really been working so it might be important to try and switch it up for the last exam to try and get the grade you need. As for myself, I listened to Dr. G...ALL the time. I even played him while I was sleeping I basically took every exam with his voice whispering the answers to me inside of my head (I listened to the heme lectures about 8 times, probably could still quote whole sections of that stuff). But, his style of teaching somehow clicked and worked for me.

Handouts, well I probably went through those total of 2 times for each section, pretty much all the info is in there but you need to be able to get it onto the page during the exam.

I gave up on reading Robbins a few weeks into path, too much info for the course, only used it for reference in 4th term.

Review of Robbins was a great primer for the exam questions, do the questions, study the answers, it'll show you what you are doing wrong when you take exams. I found these questions were harder than the exam for the most part, that was nice b/c you weren't surprised with the level of difficulty on any of the exams after doing RofR.

Also did WebPath questions when I was starting a new section, these are way easier than the RofR book and ease you into thinking along the right lines. Only ever did them once per section, you don't need to do them multiple times.

I hated Dr. S, thought he was a waste of my time b/c I had a hard time understanding him, but, other people swore by him, if he works for you better than Dr. G, go for it. But, I recommend you choose one or the other and stick to it for the rest of the term.

Only tutor I bothered talking to was CJ, he was the best, and by the time the second exam rolled around, Dr. B had gotten wind of his amazing review sessions and put a stop to them, so didn't have his experience for the last exam.

I always reviewed my slides on the day prior to the exam, DON'T read all of the material that is attached to the slide, look at the slide and know what it's a picture of, that's all you really need. You've probably noticed that you don't need the picture on the majority of the slide questions

If I were you, I wouldn't attempt to make appointments with any of the faculty except for CJ, unless it works for you, I couldn't understand Mrs. Dr. B and Dr. M was cool, but not useful in terms of learning for me.

And, try not to fear, at least in our term, the 3rd exam was pretty easy, there's a good shot of you doing pretty well on it. Study the female stuff hard, that's my best advice for that exam

Good luck!!

Thank you thank you thank you!

And I'm such a fan of Goljan... though I need to listen to female about six more times. Right now the main thing I remember from it is the advice on how to be a good spouse when she says her day was "fine".

sure, anytime, that's what we're here for...

sorry, forgot to post Step I advice, if you search for all of my posts, go to the last page and you'll be able to find them there. I put up a lot of advice after I took Step I, the threads are pretty far back, but you can find them if you just search my postings. I put up exactly what I did to study, from which books I used to which Q-bank, etc....let me know if you can't find them and I'll put up the link, I'm just a little lazy tonight

Consider this a warning. You people have been members here for long enough to know better. No more Ms Nice Moderator! No posting of proper names, no posting of symbols to get around the vulgar language editor. Frankly, I'm surprised at some of you old salts.

If I knew anything about females, I wouldn't still be single. I'm doomed (in many ways).

GL guys.
