Hey EpiJunky....what have you heard regarding using a Verizon International Phone in Grenada??? In the Fall of 2004 I can down to get my wife out after IVAN but my NEXTELL Satellite Phone would not work...NEXTELL gave me no credible answer. I had to go to the US Embassey to borrow a phone (I'm in the military) I am coming down in Jan 09 as a 1st term SOM student.

I have a Verizon "Global" phone I am currently using (motorola z6c). Works well here. 2 ways you can use it here. The first is the usually way where verizon gives you one of their SIM cards that works in a ton of countries. You keep your phone number. However, the calls are expensive (at least $1 per minute sometimes more depending on the country regardless of sending or receiving). Or you can buy one of the SIM cards here and use it like any other unlocked AT&T/Tmobile phone. You get a grenada number and pay the grenada rates which for digicel are like $0.10 per minute on network I believe and $0.30 -$0.40 to the US.

I know there is a blackberry from verizon that is "global" too and would work similarly. Just make sure you get them to unlock it when you buy it and to give you the global verizon SIM card for free (though it costs a lot to make calls, it doesn't hurt to have in emergencies).

Reilly pretty much said everything I would have said.

They're built to work on CMDA and GSM so they can work down here in grenada...

I would definitely make sure that the phone you bring is unlocked so that you can put in Grenada sim and use it.

Lemme know if you have any other q's

hey epijunky, i just wanted to thank you for your advice. i got the at&t pick your plan about a month ago and then before i come down to grenada i'm going to change it to pay as you go. the only thing is you have to get a new number, but that's fine with me.

Hey NY, just wanted to check - if you use your AT&T phone down in Grenada, dont forget to get it unlocked

Slim, the iphone has a quad band GSM so it should work nearly everywhere where GSM is available (i think south or north korea is the only place where it cant). It does have to be a GSM phone. The iphone also needs to be jailbroken and unlocked and activated before it can be used down here. google "jailbreak iphone" and you'll come up with a thousand sites on how to do it.

NY, I would just get it unlocked up in the states now. It doesnt hurt anything and in the slim chance it doesnt work youll have a chance to get a different one...what kind of phone do you have?
