Fellowships

How do SGU and AUC and other carrib grads land fellowships?

What's the overall process after med school?

Please use examples for either cardio or infectious disease.

Your input is appreciated.

THANKS =)

First you apply for residency (IM for cardio and ID) and then you apply for fellowships. Med school doesn't factor into applying for a fellowship, it is your residency, USMLE scores, and residency LORs that matter.

fellowship is generally done after residency, so med school and sgu itself doesnt play a direct role and probably only a small role in determining what fellowship is obtained

but its possible to obtain these, and possible other high end fellowships being an IMG?

No disrespect to anyone who wants to practice IM or FM, I would just like to do something more than just residency.

Thanks guys. Your awesome

yes its possible.
ID is actually not that hard to get, cardio is lot harder, especially if you are going for invasive cardio

by the time fellowship comes, the title of IMG pretty much plays very little role, as you will already have what you can as a resident to prove your worth and skills

I know SGU grads who have obtained GI fellowships and many other types. Once you're in residency med school should not be factor in most programs when applying for fellowship.

How come for many major university hospitals ( Loyola, U of C) I don't see many IMG's? This goes for residency and fellowships

Some programs tend to be IMG unfriendly regardless of USMLE scores, LORs, etc.

i dont know that it is possible really. The info doesnt go to med schools so its not centralized any place that students would have access that I know of.
