Can a surge protector from US handle 220 Volts?

well the thing is, all my electronics stuff is compatable with 220v, so a transformer is not neccesary. I also ran into this article that might be of interest. It says never to use a surge protecter meant for 110v with a step down transformer, or you will die.

I was under the impression that people have been using the surge protectors and transformers in GND. I guess I was mistaken. I did find some cheap 220v surge protectors here Surge Protector Surge Protector I have no clue how good they are though.
So should you use a 220v protector in front of the transformer? |

Just buy a 220v surge protector from a hardware store (in Gnd). Following this, buy some US -> Gnd plug converters and stick'm into the surge protector.
It won't convert the voltage from 220v, but you'll get to plug those 220-110v, 60-50Hz appliances into a surge protected outlet that fits US plug types. Is that more or less what you're going for? You can also cut the US type plug off and install the Gnd type plug in its place. Not my first choice, nor does it supply the surge protection I think you're looking for. GL

well, i'll most likely be living in the new dorms for my first semester, so 110v should be okay for the first semester. after that, if i move off campus, i probably will do that. Buy a 220v surge protector, and then an adaptor from UK style plug to US so i can plug my US electronics to the 220v surge protector.
