Hello
Well the only electronics i plan on bringing is a laptop and a printer, but everything nowadays seems to be able to be compatable with both 110V and 220V according to the plugs. Even my printer says its compatable with 220V and 50Hz on the back of it.

It won't convert the voltage from 220v, but you'll get to plug those 220-110v, 60-50Hz appliances into a surge protected outlet that fits US plug types.

Is that more or less what you're going for? You can also cut the US type plug off and install the Gnd type plug in its place. Not my first choice, nor does it supply the surge protection I think you're looking for.

No, don't cut anything!!!!! That is a very, very bad idea!

Oh yes! I should have qualified.

Do not cut wires to things you want to take back to the US. It's probably not a good idea (or even a "very, very bad idea!") to do it to your $120+US laptop tranformer, trying to save $15EC. Infact, sometimes the plug portion includes the transformer, like on my cellphone (Razr).

However, if you want to cut a US plug off a lamp you don't plan to take back to the states, hack away (so long as a screw-in 220v bulb will fit in its place). If there is a British plug on a 220v coffeemaker or iron you bought, it won't hurt to put a Grenada plug on it.

I cut the wires to this 220-110v, 60-50Hz surge protector from 'Do It Best', and it was a good move. Every outlet on the surge protector will accomidate several plug types, including US/British/Grenada. The protector was $30EC (they all cost this much) and the Grenada plug was $6EC. Moreover, Mario endorsed the protector, and I sleep well knowing he's keeping King Kuppa at bay.

To the OP: In your specific case, I'd imagine you have cool electronics with US plugs. Don't cut those, but rather go with a plug-in converter thingy. Your common sense will guide you well enough.

If that surge protector can be used for 220 to 110 volts, so too should the Belkin surge protector that I showed earlier on ebay right?
