since i am reviewing usmle and have done close to 3000 Qs on usmle world, a few nbme tests, and usmle pratice qs
i will attempt to tell you guys what you should really know and what these Qs have focused on so far

parasit- MALARIA is by far the most i have seen, others are entamoeba histolytica, giardia, cryptspordium (esp in the context of HIV)

genetics- know how each AD,AR, XR, XD and Mitochdrial inheritance looks like and how it can be described in words. know which disease has what inheritance mode
a general thumb of rule here is that ALL enzyme deficiency generally speaking is AR, EXCEPT G6PD which is XR and the 2 lysome disease which is XR is fabry and hunter

neuro- know how an action potential occurs, what ions goes in and out at what time, must know the major tract which are dorsal-column, spinothalamic, cortical spinal. know the lesions ***/ UMN and LMN lesions, must know the topography and anatomy of the brain inc brain stem and how to ID them on CT/MRI , must know the arteries and how to ID on arteriogram, know the lesions associated w/ diff brain stem lesions, know the signs and sx of diff types of bleed in the brain, know the concept of end motor potential and how it is conducted and stuff. know the diff receptors (nictonic, mus, gaba, NMDA, etc)

physio- basically know everything you will be taught in this class, everything will come back. nothng too trivial in this class. and resp and cardio comes back a lot!

immuno-believe it or nt, you need to just about almsot everything too. i have seen qs that asked what what inter-leukin does what , but the main ones will be the one secreted by TH1 and TH2 cells. know what is needed to cause pain, inflammation, fever and stuff like that. obvious know the immune-related diseases

dont worry about clinical skills

now those are what you should for sure know and remember in the long term memory
beside those you will also need a bit of luck in physio and neuro to pass the class, they test more nitty gritty stuff.

remember this term is more about understanding than memorizing, if you find yourself doing bulk memorizing the notes, go see the prof and ask him to give you a C or a F now. the only except is perhaps immuno, but even that class you need to understand.

if you can understand and figure it out for yourself, you can and you will figure it out later during usmle time

It's a good idea for each class to have their say, much the same way that each incoming class has their own sticky. Since the curriculum at SGU is not static, this is a good place to visit and stay up to date. Thanks for getting things started.

During second term, you'll be done with classes by noon. A lot of people think they can just take the rest of the day off. That is a big mistake.

I have good grades and can tell you that you'll need the rest of the day to study. Neuro is almost comical in the fact that the Germans will test you over the most seemingly trivial of things but you have to know every little detail to do well. Study the handouts relentlessly and know all the details. Don't bother with the neuro BRS. Physio requires you to know everything as well. I highly recommend the physio book by Costanzo. It explains everything well without overkill. Also, get both the regular Physio BRS as well as the BRS cases and problems book and be able to do all the questions.

I'm gonna have to agree with the above advice, especially if you care about your grades (such as myself). A lot of upper-termers told me that term 2 is not as bad as 1. And ya u may have extra time, but guess what, you're gonna need it. Even right now in term 3, it's no joke....there's a lot of material. That being said, everyone is different, do what works for you....my advice for term 2: costanzo for physio, all notes for neuro + atlas, the spiral book for immuno.

good luck!

Okay Advice for CPM (at least I think it worked for me) I will tell you when the grades are posted.. and if I don't have to re-do it next term.

Just study the notes.. and hope you remember it for the test

Genetics: Just study the notes, maybe a bit of the text. Better yet don't read the text.

Parasitology: Go to class and try to understand the big picture.

Question for everyone in Grenada?

For the cardiovascular class notes who is the author? Is it Dr.O.P. or Dr.H? or someone else?

We have Dr.OP, but I noticed a few mistakes thus far.
