Excellent question and I don't know the answer. Regarding your GPA if there's the ol' "upward trend" over the last 1-2 years then you'll be fine with an MCAT like that. If you've got a bunch of C's over that time frame then maybe they'll FOM you (if MERP can be a verb then so can FOM!!).

Most (all?) interviews are apparently laid back, and Kongakut pulled up some stats a while back that I think showed about a 50% acceptance following interview but I could be pulling that number out of my...ear so maybe she'll chime in here at some point.

My overall GPA was a hair above yours, sGPA was better but your MCAT's 4 points better than mine was and though it seems SGU's getting more competitive every semester, A's and B's over the last 1-2 years and a recent 33 MCAT would be difficult for SGU to decline, IMHO

btw FBIdoc, I believe MCAT is required for St. Georges. So other than that your application is stellar.
So even with that gpa..."my application is stellar?" I was beginning to worry...IYHO I just need to do decently on the MCAT? like mid 20s or higher?

I was calculating my AMCAS gpa and it was really depressing...

Your application is very good. Your MPH gpa of 3.4 really helps balance your undersgrad GPA. You stand out in your clinical experiences and publications. As for the MCAT, always aim high it doesn't hurt to have a higher than average score.

Thanks for the advice...in addition if you break out my PA program grades from University of Washington SOM I had 7 quarters of Dean's List work with a cum gpa of 3.53...this I can explain in the personal statement and interviews, no?

BTW anyone know of SGU waiving the MCAT? If so what were the circumstances....

All Applicants

Applicants are advised that the Committee on Admission requires an academic indicator (completed coursework or exam score) within the three years prior to making application. North American applicants are advised that MCAT scores may be used as a recent academic indicator. An applicant who thinks that special circumstances will qualify him/her for a waiver must submit a written request for such a waiver to the Committee on Admission.

You can call and ask if your PA degree can be considered special circumstances. But its safer to take the MCAT. Its also a test taking practice for Step 1, which is much harder.

Hey, I was wondering what my chances were? Haha. I have a 3.8 gpa overall and a 3.7 science gpa. I have over 500 hours of volunteer work in hospital clinics, etc... My MCAT is rather low though 22P (8 B 8 P 6 V). Do I still have a shot? Thanks

Any chance of retaking the MCAT and pulling it up? Still, your GPA is excellent, so I would guess there's a good shot. With a better MCAT, should be eligible for US schools?

I know I probably should re-take my MCAT. I really want to start in Aug. If I take my MCAT in April, will I still have a shot for the Aug. class?

if you retake and get a 30+ you should apply to US schools.
