no, i understand what your saying, i had to do the same exact thing with a different school. i'm talking aabout defering for a year and re-applying to US schools, if someone is going to re-apply to US schools then apply to carribean schools then, with the second application cycle, not before. i think it's backwards to defer for a year.

yes that would be correct. But from what i've read on these boards many people don't want to waste a year and apply to the Caribbean with the mentality that "In the end its still an MD." Some people learn after applying the extra hoops needed to jump through, The difference between being an AMG and IMG/FMG, difference in getting university based or community based residencies etc. I learned about all these things just recently after I had applied. If this was my first US application cycle i would have definitely deferred to give myself one more shot at US schools, but i have already been through 3 cycles and now must get myself ready to tackle whatever roadblocks are there for IMGs.

Also, you don't know how old I am, how old my MCAT is, if I'm a U.S. citizen, where I went to college....also isn't this the time US schools send out their final rejection letters?

I'm from Houston, TX. I heard that allegedly the Texas Medical Board looks down upon FMGs. Also not too many IMGs match in specialty residencies in TX for some reason (could also be because not many people choose to apply in TX.)

hi all; I am new to the forum.

I'm posting because I just found out, that I failed my first class ever and I'm wondering what my standings are (if there is any hope). I'm a 3d year student, but plan on drawing my degree out (with another major and minor) for 5th year.

my gpa is currently 3.25 (with 1 D)
mcat: have not taken it yet

PLEASE get back to me, I am grateful, thank you.

Here's a link to SGU's page, entrance statistics Medical Sciences Student Statisitcs - School of Medicine - St. George’s University

You can compare your stats for yourself. Your gpa is slightly lower than the average. You could make up for it with a great mcat score.

Do you plan to apply to US schools first? Most people would tell you that is the way to go.

i got in with similar stats but my mcat was 32, and science gpa was 3.4. goodluck to you. 34 is a great mcat. Have you considered doing masters and then applying to US schools?

I doubt he can get into US schools even if he does well in masters, because he'd miss the first cut by looking the undergrad GPA (unless he's African American or Hispanic).

But a pretty decent chance at SGU. UCLA is a good school so 3.14 there isn't so bad. And the MCAT's real good.
