i wasnt commenting on whether or not she should take an opportunity in the states. i just dont think there is a need for any attitude - i asked why you applied and are not accepting you admittance because i have seen you posting on all the blogs on a daily basis claiming you just want to know if you got in, and how long you have been waiting. so i was confused as to why you would be reluctant to go if the 4-5 months you waited were so ridiculous - as you had stated. if you knew you werent going, which i assume u knew before your acceptance seeing as you said things change over the past few months, and it must have been only a week ago your were upset about still not hearing. why even stress about it if you had no intention of going. students that actually want to go to SGU - maybe bc they dont have the opportunity that you have - are now put behind someone who is not even interested.

she thought (right or wrong) sgu would let her know in a few weeks...sgu processes through thousands of applications per cycle- while hers seemed to be a longer process than usual, she only found out her acceptance after getting "No"s from her US schools. and at this point a respoonsible person will think about the options that they have (not jump to whatever place says yes...if that was the case she would be going to ross right now) and make the decision about what is best for HER -while it is nice to think of other people--this is MED SCHOOL- the competition is fierce (even in caribbean schools such as sgu, ross, auc) and you can't let go of opportunities for yourself because you wanna be nice (trust me no one is gonna do that for you...) and remember what they say about ASSUming...while you will think you will do one thing, when you have the reality in front of you, your decision may be different. While swimchick may have thought oh, i'm not going to go there, she really didn't know that until she had the acceptance to make that decision. If swimchick (or any other applicant with the same dilemma) were to to take the simpler route- sure going to the 1st school that accepts you would be the easier thing to do, but may not be the best thing for you. personally? I held onto all 3 caribbean med school acceptances while i waited to hear from the waitlisted schools i had in the US and only let go 2 of them until i decided which was best for me--and if there were people behind me waiting for a spot...well, to be honest, if the school thought they were as good a choice as me, then they wouldn't be waiting....they would have already received a letter of acceptance.

Uh oh, Rok's hard-fought for thread is degenerating...
and for the record, yeah Swimchick's got to do what she's got to do. Besides with an MCAT above 30 she's got a good shot in the US.
