Good suggestion about the svg thread. ill take it down.
However the nature of "what are my chances threads" are simply very different from the SVG general info content where individual situations arent what's assessed.

but at least with a "sticky" for it, there won't be the 12 relatively similar "can I get in?" threads cluttering up the page every couple of months

can i please have it as a graduation present??

please?

Hi all,
I am fairly new on the site, this is my first post but I have been reading posts for a few months now. I am posting because I find myself in quite a dilema. A little background (or a lot). Until Aug. of '07 I was working as a network administrator for a company. I graduated with a bachelors in computer science in '04 from a small private college (night school). I received a 3.76 GPA. I was working as a network administrator even prior to my degree, since about '03. I attended a Junior College from '98 - '00 and went through a divorce my second and third semesters there, needles to say, my GPA was horrible (2.5). Now of course that is coming back to haunt me.
Growing up, all the way through highschool and even in to the beginning of college I always wanted to be doctor, I even got my CNA license and have worked in both a hospital and nursing home setting. But for what ever reason I gave this up after struggling through my divorce (which involved a child). So I found coumputers and loved it and thought that that is what I would do for my career. Well last spring I started talking to my wife ( I am married again, 6 years, 3 kids) about my earlier aspirations of being a doctor, and to my dismay she encouraged me to follow my dreams. I applied to a Post-Bacc program and was accepted, picked up my family and moved across the country to attend school in Georgia, from Idaho. (Chose Georgia because my inlaws live close by) I started the Post-Bacc program in Aug '07 and am now on semester break.
The problem I am facing is that until now I was unaware of how GPA's (and BPCM GPA) were calculated, as far as including all my grades all the way back. So I finally found an AMCAS GPA calculator and found out that if I get A's in the rest of my classes I will be facing a cGPA of 3.11 and a sGPA of 2.72, I have not taken the mcat yet. So I obviously know now that only foreign med schools would even consider me, and that I am even low for that. So after finding this out tonight I am debating whether I shoudl continue in my program or just bail now. I hate to even say that, but as I mentioned earlier I have a family to think about. I would just hate to finish out the next 8 months, and an extra $20K and then have no chance to get in. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, seems like there are a lot of wise sensible people on hear and it would be great to know what you guys thought, good or bad. Sorry for the long post, but I thought the back ground info was important.

sid876,
Thank you so much for your post, your story was really encouraging, seeming as how I am somewhat in a similar boat. SGU would definitely be my first choice as well. I know I can handle med school, I just have to be able to convince the school of that. I truly beleive that I will have a good chance if I can just get an interview. My interviewing skills are definitely one of my strong points. sid876, do you know what kind of medicine you want to practice?

Roks, I was so happy for you when I saw this stickied last week (I think). It was a victory for the people!!

I now sympathize with your renewed angst...

Anybody else laying over in Trinidad tonight??

jiggin, I am only a 1st year so take what follows with a grain of salt. I'm pretty sure a 2.7 science GPA will preclude an acceptance from SGU barring an "exceptional" MCAT score (by that I mean exceptional by SGU standards so like 30+). But just guessing, really.

If SGU doesn't work out, Ross is known for being easy on the acceptance standards and then flunking/decelerating all sorts of students but if you can objectively say with certainty that you can handle medical school then that's always a possibility. We obviously can't tell you what you should do, but I hope we give you some things to chew on.

All the best

UK medschools are really selective for who they'd accept (and have very few spaces for int students). UCAS Home Page is the directory and applications service for British medschools. Good luck
