Not at all being arrogant or inflammatory, it is not my intention to do so. I didn't know how it would be perceived to list my institution, per se... so those that are familiar with Div1 FBS conferences would know that BigXII doesn't refer to the academic stature of the institution, but rather the athletic conference that it's affliated with. UDub & UCLA are on that list = Pac10, Gators on that list = SEC, BigHouse is on that list too = Big10, etc, etc.

MY chance for pre-med
I think my high shcool status will be like this in the next year when I apply SGU pre-med.
I am an international student studying in a Canadian school. I am grade 11 now. Race: Asian High school GPA 3.0 Science GPA 3.0 I am getting B in every subject so far. In my school 73%~85% is B. (No B- or B+) 4 AP cources. I will take them next year AP Chem AP Bio AP Calculus AP Physics Volunteer for disable people in my school (50h+) and old people, a lodge near hospital (50h+). Doing special research for my biology teacher for LOR Global issues club member, Youth for diversity club member, taking a cource called leadership for community service, recycling program at my school to help poor children. The thing is our small town has not many things to do. I talked my counselor and she said there is no math club, science club, and national scholar or science scholar in my school and in my town.. Do you guys have any idea for chance to sgu's pre-med cource ? Last edited by tennisball80; 04-13-2008 at 07:22 PM. |

I'd say go to university, kick butt in undergrad, get some life experience and try to get into a canadian or american school later on. SGU premed is decent, but really limits your options if you decide that medicine isn't for you (and there is a chance you will. I can name a half dozen people from undergrad who were really gung-ho for medicine starting out, but changed their minds later on).

yup u dont wanna rush into the pre-med program. who knows half way thru u might end up wanting to do something else. most of the pre-meds change their mind anyways.
But yeah the university and MCAT route is the best. gives u lot more options. u wanna stay in US/Canada if you can. Caribb should be your last resort. Living on the island is not the easiest thing to do either. |

I am brand new so I hope I am posting properly...
Hi there,
Will be applying to Can and US but not getting my hopes up 24 year old Canadian, married to an Irish citizen 3.4 overall with strong upward trend in last few years and a 3.7 currently. Have retaken a few first year science courses which is apparently a no-no Strong EC's, awards, dean's list, etc. Writing the MCAT soon and expect to do pretty well Applying to Can and US but not getting my hopes up Would appreciate any advice about getting in as an average student. |

iheartmed.. your GPA is decent for SGU.. as long you do decent on your MCAT - 26 or over- you have a decent chance of getting in. If you get anywhere close to 30, you'll be a shoo-in for SGU. Anywhere in mid 30s and you should def try for US/Canadian school.
