OK guys and girls, let me know how you feel about my chances, if you would:

2.9 GPA(have one more quarter and could possibly bring it up to a 3.0) from UC Riverside
30Q MCAT (9/10/11)
50+ hospital volunteer hours
US Marine Corps Officer Candidate (Quit due to a concussion and reoccurring knee problems)
VP of my fraternity
Treasurer of our Associated Students for Microbiology Chapter
Member of Model UN and some other local clubs

Worked a few jobs (temping, manual labor, retail)
No research experience

Let me know if I'm missing anything

SO what do you guys think?

Hard to say. your mcat is great but gpa on the low side. I have 3.1 gpa and 32 mcat so we have similar scores. I took the mcat 4 years ago and graduate this spring after a 3 year break. I was just called for interview, I'll let u know if they accept me or not.

its weird because SGU has increased enrollment. I guess the quality of pre-meds is increasing.

Or the reputation of SGU is becoming more attractive to those who aren't getting into US schools.

Yes most likely a combination of both.

Moose - I agree with Arga. MCAT is great. GPA a little on the low side. Maybe SGU has increased their acceptance requirements this cycle? It seems more and more people with decent stats are heading over to other forums after they post here for a while - meaning they may have not gotten in. Or they may offer FOM. Good luck.

I think your qualitites...are wonderful

"50+ hospital volunteer hours
US Marine Corps Officer Candidate (Quit due to a concussion and reoccurring knee problems)
VP of my fraternity

hopefully the school will take into account these achievements. gpa isn't everything, that's just my opinion. people answer you and focus on your gpa which may be a huge factor and may not. you never know. i think gpa is crap...everyone lists their gpa's but not which schools they went to...i have a very low gpa undergrad and tried to boost it up post-bacc. i went to the top state school in NY and feel that i am not only competing with people from fist tier schools, but also from second and third who have much better GPAs than I do. I just don't think it's fair, I guess that's life. I wish I had gone to an easier school and got a 4.0. Moral of the story is try not to dwell on your low gpa, you have awesome credentials, don't worry about what everyone tells you on this forum regarding your low gpa, just get your recs together, APPLY and wait and see what pans out. Good Luck!
