    Clinical Location?

Are they ever going to obtain a clinical location in the South (Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana)?

You're free to use your elective time (up to 12 weeks I think) for unaffiliated hospital rotations in whatever state/province/country you want, just be aware of the licensing issues in whichever state you plan to practice in. Also keep in mind many teaching hospitals have exclusivity contracts with certain medical schools (SGU included), so it's not as simple as just signing up for clinical spots because the school wants them.

Yeah I understand that clinical locations are based on large contracts between the hospitals and SGU. I was wondering if there are any plans in the near future to get one in the South. I believe Ross has a clinical site in Atlanta. It would be real nice for those that are from the South to come back to their region, instead of being stuck in the Northeast.

Northeast is way better for clinicals than the South!!!! Every doctor I talked to recommended me to do clinicals and residency in the Northeast if possible instead of staying in the South (im from Florida)....You get exposed to whole lot more up there compared to the hospitals down here!

no i dont think sgu has any plans to get more hospitals. recently they just signed a huge contract for bunch of hospitals in nyc.
and beside, if you were going to out of state US med schools, you are stuck with their affliated hospitals anyway and cat go back home for clinicals. so it is really no different than going to a out of state US SOM

I wrote bayshore about this exact thing recently and this is the response I got:
"The school is always interested in exploring the possibility of additional programs. If you happen to know someone at a particular hospital and they are interested in discussing an affiliation with SGU please send me the information or ask them to contact me."

So, if you have a contact at a mid or southeastern hospital, PLEASE be proactive about it...who knows, it could happen. PM me and I'll send you the appropriate email address to get started.

Do students in U.S. med schools do clinicals anywhere in the country or do they only go to the hospitals that are sanctioned by the schools?

yeah, i'm sure the students at Duke, Vanderbilt, Emory, and Baylor get a terrible experience...

in US schools, 3rd year cores have to be done at affliated hospitals, but a certain number of weeks in the 4th year can be done anywhere in the US and even abroad.
