    Pre-med to MD Questions

    Hi, folks:
I see that St. G.'s pre-med is three years in length. On the site, it states that you can enter the program at the place you qualify for based on your undergrade record. Since I've already completed some of those courses, I'd like to cut my pre-med to a year or so. Is there anyone out there who has done this? Also, is it correct to assume that doing well in pre-med will get you into St. G.'s MD program? Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Hello, I entered SGU in premed year 2. I had all the courses that were in Premed year 1. I actually had some courses from premed year 3 but I didn't have much of the ones offered in year 2. So that is why I got placed in Premed year 2. There are alot of people that come straight into premed year 3. If you have all the courses in premed year 1 and 2, then yeah you would get placed in year 3. Year 3 is a great year because it prepares you for med. If you have an over all GPA of 3.0 and a year 3 GPA of 3.2(or vice versa), pass the PMSCE(70% is passing, exam given at the end of year 3, consisting of all the courses in year 3) you go straight into Med term 1. If you get a GPA of 3.0-3.2 you get placed into the alternate program of Med which consists of splitting med term 1 into 2 terms. Hope this helps.

    Hi:
Thank you all for your help. So, If I kick butt on the exam after the third pre-med year, will I also have to score highly on the MCAT?

That is the plus for premed at SGU, just get the GPA's, pass the PMSCE, and never have to take the MCATS!
