I am a premed @ SGU and I already have a ** degree from previous institution. Now the premed program here have a set courses that they have lined up for premed students who are going for both ** degree and MD.
Turns out following their track would mean taking lots of non- science related courses like... spanish, math for critical thinking (i heard you learn how to do addition and subtraction there), public speaking and etc.. They've signed me up to take those courses, and I found out today I don't have to take those courses during my premed program in order to pursue just MD degree.
Now... I am seeking your advice at this point.
I am currently signed up to take two science courses next semester. After that, I can either take 3 non science related courses (math for critical thinking, spanish, and some spreadsheet class.. this means I am simply following along the school designed program for those who are pursuing **/MD degree) or just drop those non science related courses but instead add extra science course (such as physics).
Advantage of this is that I am spending my time on courses that I think matter more (science)... disadvantage of doing that (according to advising office) is that I may be lessening my workload.. thereby "unpreparing" me for "real" courses I will be facing on my third year.
One thing to note. Premed 2 students are not allowed to take premed 3 students courses. That means by the time I take premed 2 courses, I will probably indeed have less course (because I took some of the 2nd year premed course a year before that) when I reach 2nd semester. Advising pointed out, however, that I may be allowed to take some of the nursing courses then, which will be similar to to biochem courses that I will face during 3rd year. So I am guessing I can add those nursing courses in my 2nd year so I can get a bit of head start for my 3rd year biochem.... which shall prepare me well for "real science".
What do you think guys? Do I go free-style with my courses on this? Or do I simply follow along the courses that the school has designed for me (they were telling me that they've designed all the courses so they can gradually increase my workload into the 3rd year... so it would seem easy on me...)
thanks...
