even if they deposit it for me, the money won't go into my account.

banking

i got my loans in US funds. I opened a savings account here in US funds (yes you can do that) and when i need moneu i take my little book into the bank and tell them how much US money i want to take out of my account and then have it converted into EC. The great thing is that my money is accessible and that I am earning some interest on my loan money. At the end of the term they will write you a bank check for like $2.50 US to bring the money home. Works like a charm.

Like Jay said, when you get your check after registration, you can send it directly from GND to your bank (via FedEx) or to your Ps and they can deposit it into your account. Most banks will let you deposit a check in someone else's account (I didn't even have to sign the back of the check) as long as you have the account number written on the back of the check. If you want to be sure, call the bank and ask.

Obviously, withdrawals are another matter...but deposits should be ok.

I Second that Rokshana. I have it on my file that they should send my check to my house in Georgia, then I have my family deposit it and I can withdraw from ScotiaBank.

yeah. Calling student financials and asking them to mail the refund to someone's address back home is the way to go IMO. Has usually taken about a week after registration to arrive since I register ASAP and Bay Shore only mails out the checks once they receive the list of who has registered which they usually get approx. 3 days after the first day of registration.

I do like Rasty's idea of getting some interest on it, but I'd rather have the money in my US account.

Concur. Although you may want to remind them each term that you want it to be sent home. Otherwise you will have to send it yourself after pick up, as they will surely forget.

Once you tell them once to send it home they put it on your file. I called to make sure it would still be sent back home this term and they told me it was already in the system.

well okay, but I don't trust them. There was another screw up with people's checks this past term 3.
