I spoke with my admission counselor today and I was told that the priority waitlist is nothing special. It just means that you are given more options to consider such as
1. Waitlist for GND 2. Waitlist for GND with acceptance for GSP 3. Acceptance for GSP 4. Acceptance for January 08 and once you have chosen to remain on waitlist for GND, then you are on the waitlist just like any other regular waitlist student....so priority doesn't really mean that you will be given priority once a seat is available. (Or at least that is what I am told). |

I just withdrew from SGU. I was accepted in Feb for GSP and was recently accepted to an U.S. allopathic school. Hopefully, someone on the waitlist will be able to take my spot. SGU is great in my opinion because it gives you a lot of opportunities. Good luck guys

I've been to Australia for 4.5 months and it is a wonderful country. I would suggest going to SGU as it is comparable to a US med school curriculum. Also, they use some different drugs and I know that from going to to the doctor when I was sick. Not sure if they learn the same practices either - I met some med students while I was there and they were doing rotations around the country and said school was a joke. Also, I'm sure you looked way into the school on the website (I did that a ahile ago) but I think it's a longer program and a bachelor's. I know they let you do a clinical in the US and take time off for the USMLE.
Good Luck with your decision. |

Hi all,
This is my first time posting here. I recently applied to SGU and AUC after finding out that AUA didn't have federal loans. Sounds like the class is pretty full, but was told today that I'm approved for an interview and I'm telling myself that Jan 09 wouldn't be that bad. Stats are 3.94 post-grad GPA, 3.85 science GPA, and 29Q MCAT. Anyone else here interview in NC? ANy ideas when I might hear back about an interview? Admissions told me it would be a few days to 2 weeks. Thanks everyone, for all of the great information on this forum! |

veggiemedi,
are you cdn or american? where do you want to end up practicing in the end? if cdn & wanting to return to canada, i would say go to queensland. canada seems to favor schooling in a commonwealth country over the caribbean. there's definitely less of a stigma to it anyway and some would argue there are more post grad opportunities this way since you have some eligibility to stay in australia, might have a better chance of matching in canada and can also try to match in the us. i would go this route if i didn't have to pack my dog along with me (too long of a flight). if you want to end up in the us with either citizenship, i would say go to sgu. i think it can only help to do your clinicals in the us if you want to end up there. that's my two cents... there's also the licensing issues to consider with gsp... |
