Talk to your counselor. They'll probably put you in Grand Anse - shouldn't be too much trouble.

Someone help me here...PLEASE! I don't know what to do... I HATE the MCAT- and am terrified of taking it again (23P- first), but this is the only thing holding me back from applying US (I have a 4.0 GPA) and withdrew all my apps after discovering my MCAT scores. I am 27 and Female, def not getting any younger.
1 day out and I am already facing criticism from family, friends and doctors for considering going abroad. Plus, I fear I won't find myself confident enough to tell people I am leaving for medical school 'to the Caribbean'. The surgeons that I work with here (Los Angeles) tell me I have a better shot of equality if I go D.O. than abroad, but I just don't see it. Is it really going to follow me the rest of my life- negatively? How successful are 1st or 2nd year transfers to US schools? Does anyone have opinion/ feedback? |

work hard and take the MCAT again...honestly if you are afraid of the MCAT, then what in the world will you do when you have to take the USMLEs?? Or board certification? Medicine is full of standardized tests, get use to it...
then apply to US schools---even a 5 pt increase will probably get you interviews.... do questions, questions, questions, and them when you think ou are done....do more questions....

Take the MCAT again but use a prep course like Kaplan, I used them and they were awesome, totally worth the money, in my opinion. With respect to foreign grads, my interviewer for SGU told me his wife is a medical examiner for New York State, and there are 4 other SGU grads doing the same right now. Also many go on to become chief residents. But you have to be able to deal with the stigma should it arise, fear of the mcat shouldn't be the reason you look to foreign schools, otherwise you'll always feel inferior.

Thanks guys. My stats were 3.6 and 12, 9, 12 on mcats. oh and for the above poster about us schools-i applied, interviewd and was waitlisted; ultimately didn't get in so things such as ur state, ethniciity, financial situation factor into opting for SGU. As can be seen from the residency match, SGU does pretty well at placing their students in residency and how competitive you want to make yourself is up to you. I think SGU will be fine as long as you are willing to work hard and put in the extra effort. In the long run we might actually have a better experience than some of the US students cuz of the opportunity to do clinical rotations in different locations, etc. etc. At first I was hesitant about the decision but now I am actually very excited. I think this will probably turn out to be a good experience. I will get back to you on how it goes after four years : ). Good luck to those that are still waiting!
