This question is out of your general topic but I am hoping to get some advice from you all and not quite sure where to post it....new to valuemd.

I want to apply to SGU and I am not too sure where to start for their essay A: Personal statement - please if anyone can guide me in what to write, perhaps provide a sample of your personal statment...it would be very much appreciated.

I dont know if April 20th was the day they started waitlisting applicants.

I got word of acceptance on april 28th (phone conversation with my counselor). I had my interview on april 17th and had requested an early decision by faxing them my Ross and AUC acceptance letters.

I would say there are probably some spots left that they are witholding for some reason.

You can write it any format really - you basically need to convey why you want to be a doctor, what experiences in your life have directed you to make that decision and how they have helped you to realize that you can make a good physician. And add your own personal touch to it.

I wrote it as a story set 10 years in the future, where I was already a practicing physician in a hospital and narrated the events of that day with sort of flashbacks to my past experiences.

Google search "personal statement, medical school," or some variation. You'll get several dozen samples to look at. Then do one just like them, but more interesting and original.

Don't write that the doctor who treated your terminally-ill grandfather inspired you to help others, that you've wanted to be a doctor since the kind ld surgeon fixed your heart murmur when you were 3, or that you plan to spend the rest of you life helping orphans in 3rd world countries - it's been done. Bonus points if you actually come right out and say that you're in it for the money.

I've got a blog. I even update it sometimes.

I definitely feel like an idiot. I didn't realize you could expedite your decision if you had acceptance letters from other schools. I would have applied to AUC then. I submitted my application early march and thought I was fine. I got the "we are considering you for an interview" letter so far but damn, doesn't look like I'll make it in August if they are already waitlisting.

Anyone know if you get accepted and waitlisted if you can just defer to january?

I don't think SGU "defers". Call and ask to be certain.

I tried sending you a PM cause I need some advice and you seem really knowledgeable! I am new to valuemd and I don't think my message to you worked! Please let me know if you don't mind me asking you some questions. I am deciding beteen SMU MD program and SGU FOM program. Anyone else with advice for me?? I'd REALLY appreciate it as I'm going through hell trying to decide whether or not I should take the risk!

In a toss up between the two, SGU is a way better school than SMU for numerous reasons. Go there and work your *** off and you will be fine. If you worried about wasting time, just retire a year later, going to a better school will payoff in the end.

The most important aspect of any structure is its foundation.

that's a very good way to look at things. now my three years of applying to US schools don't look too bad.
