If you start in January, is there any way to catch up to the previous August class? I'm in the same boat as lots of people...I have an interview coming up in a few weeks for August but since it's full, I'll be waitlisted at best...I'm really stressed out that the class is full already...damnit...but hopefully I can get in off of the waitlist which apparently just started...I can't count on that though...
do a search, but short story..no you can't catch up the class the term before, not really anyway (could go to the UK, do everything there and take absolutely no breaks, but you hurt yourself in the long run), and the perks are, you are in a better position to transfer to the US, you have more time to take to study for the steps, to interview, etc.

well i think the canadians have gov't help too (but since i'm not canadian i don't know that much about it)

and since gradplus loans are not credit SCORE based, they are easier to get and cover all the cost, there aren't that many i think that are still relying on private loans at sgu anymore.

Honey,

Canadians receive around 8-9K from the government (not enough for SGU, but anything helps). Canadians did get loans from CANHELP (around 45K/year) but as of April 18th they are no longer accepting new applications. So the options left for Canadian applicants are:

1. Rich Uncle
2. Line of Credits
3. Scholarships

If anyone knows of a fourth source please enlighten me.

i think even with government loans and a line of credit, one would still be about $50-60K short. sgu seems to have some good scholarship options though...

or if you wanted to work in a rural environment, i think there is at least one health authority in manitoba that is paying tuition for students in ireland. you could always try to negotiate something like that.

is the august class full? Someone posted the current schedule and it looks like if starting Jan 09' you get breaks in at both summers. when do 3rd year clinicals begin in the U.S.? do they only begin in august lets say, is there a set time, like U.S med schools all begin in aug. do they start earlier in UK? Thanks.

Is it possible to get Line of Credits from two different banks?

How could you catch up even if you wanted to? Aug 08' Students Finish Spring 10' and can begin clinicals that same year in Fall 10' after taking Step 1 over the summer. Jan 09' students finish Fall 10' and when would be the soonest you can start clinicals after that,, Spring 10'? or do clinicals only begin (in the U.S. during Fall terms)
No matter what you would be behind. You can try applying to AUC, they are still accepting for Fall and they have no breaks you would be guaranteed to finish Spring 10' and begin clinicals Fall 10'. But, better, I would suggest not to worry so much about time, meaning getting things done so quickly, it makes a difference but what's the rush?

thanks...I'll call my advisor tom.
The August class is already full!?!! Gosh, my luck...what am I gonna do if I dont get into sgu?

i asked the admissions counselor the same question. jan'09 students finish basic sciences 12/10 and would start clinicals at the end of april/begining of may. that's what she said.

also, i'm thinking you would finish up clinicals about 12/12 (give or take depending on if everything runs on shcedule, not going back an extra semester for failing a class, failing step 1 or 2, delays with clinicals, or any other extraordinary circumstances), match 3/13 and start residency 7/13. so an advantage of jan'09 start is that you are matching the same time as aug'09 students and have a few more months to play with, like previously said, for studying for step 1 and 2 and interviews. i was bummed at first about the 1 year delay for residency since i am 27 now, 28 next month, but realize it will give me some time to study after basic sciences and clinicals and i'm sure i'll need it.
