I was able to see every letter of recommendation that was written for me. At Barry, we don't have interfolio or any type of LOR service as I've heard other schools have. That's the only way I was able to say that I had awesome LORs. And by awesome, I mean one professor actually wrote three pages, and did research on each school I was applying to so that he could comment on exactly how I would fit into those programs. Basically, every letter was different. I really appreciated that.

Syclin,

You may be in a different position than me. I'm not from the US, so may be in a different pool??? I don't really know how it works.

To be serious, virtually everybody has good LOR's, guys. That's why they're called Letters of Recommendation. And also why, in lieu of a pre-med committee, only profs with favorable opinions of the student in question are requested to write them. Besides, many of them don't want to be the reason you don't get into medical school.

I wouldn't necessarily be proud just because you got good LOR's, but would focus on whether or not you received lukewarm/bad LOR's because that would be the anomaly.

Sorry to burst some bubbles.

For those who heard back much quicker...good for you! and congrats!!
I really do not believe it should be taking that long...I don't understand what is up with all the March 19th interviewees hearing back now at the end of April/beginning of May. I interviewed March 31st--almost two weeks after most of the folks still waiting and heard back on April 11th. If I were in your position I would be e-mailing my admissions counselor every 10-12 days or so just so he or she does not forget about me and my application file.

I talked to my admissions counselor on the phone earlier today, and when I asked her how long it normally takes to review applications and hear back she said 6-8 weeks. She also confirmed that the August 2008 class filled yesterday (for Grenada, at least). She noted it was rolling admissions, but she couldn't give me any reasons why some people hear back in a couple days while others who applied earlier don't hear for weeks or months.

So I missed it by a day Guess I should have applied a day earlier...

The letter did say that this year was the most competitive ever, which might explain why the class is full a little earlier...

I'm hoping the waitlist will move as people get their acceptances elsewhere or have trouble securing financing. I think the latter might be an issue for some given the current credit situation.

well, sgu is a title IV school so it has federal loans, both stafford and grad plus loans, so the COA can be covered by both.

I and a few other applicants were accepted last year a few weeks after the Aug class was "full" so keep hope alive!! Lot of perks to starting in January though.

i'm thinking more about some of the private lenders ceasing their programs. i know nothing about how us financial aid works, but i think some people usually rely on private loans as a supplement (cdns anyway).

What are some of these perks you speak of ? I'm really down that I'll be losing a year by starting in January...(if I do indeed even get waitlisted and then get my application moved over)

If you start in January, is there any way to catch up to the previous August class? I'm in the same boat as lots of people...I have an interview coming up in a few weeks for August but since it's full, I'll be waitlisted at best...I'm really stressed out that the class is full already...damnit...but hopefully I can get in off of the waitlist which apparently just started...I can't count on that though...
