Jan '09:
Basic science: Jan '09 - Dec '10
Study for step 1: Dec '10 to May '11
Clinicals: May '11 through Dec '12 or so
Match in spring of 2013 (applying in fall of 2012)

Hi, Just a question. Why "Study for step 1: Dec '10 to May '11"? Why not take step 1 dec'10/jan'11 and start clinical jan/feb'11 instead of may? Is it just because you have plenty of extra time to study and for clinicals being a jan'09 start?

lets see....one would be hard pressed to reveiw for a test that incorporates the entire 1st 2 years of med school in, what? 2-3 weeks? (and its one where your score is more important than all your grades put together...),

and two, US clinicals for the jan class start in MAY...med school is not a la carte...you don't pick and choose when you are taking a class or when you start a rotation..there are 300 other people start rotations at the same time as you, so they kinda have a schedule.

and very few people will study for the WHOLE time-generally 7-8 weeks is the norm, then you have time for a vacation and then finding a place to live and moving there.

of course if you are in THAT much of a hurry, you can go to the UK in jan or april...

I apologize if I gave you the impression that I was an admissions counselor - I'm not, I'm just an applicant to SGU. I was looking at pros/cons for starting in August vs. January so I'd worked out the timeline for myself earlier. The timeline I posted is what I've read from the SGU website and the other threads current students have posted on these forums.

thanks a lot for clearing that up, i didn't know that jan start students have to start in may for clinicals, and i didn't know you could go to the uk to get one done in the meantime. thanks. it's not so much that i'm in a hurry, it's what to do during that time off (living/working/car), same issue with the summer '09 off.

that summer break is actually quite short 3-4 weeks and since its after 4th term, you will want to do nothing and then do some more nothing...

haha, that was funny and i'm sure i will be looking foward to doing nothing. but actually for jan starters there is a 3 month summer break between term 1 and term 2. that's why i was concerned about it. to long to just hang around and too short to buy a car and get a job. so i just want to set that up before i even start.

There's always the Thailand selective, or Prague if there's any spots left.

here: Selectives - St. George’s University

though most of them take place during the semester, there's a few that you can do over the summer. And yes, you can take them after 1st term - I'm doing Thailand this summer, and I know one person who got into Prague.

Hey your blog is pretty funny. I might have to read that from now on. Or maybe not, because I get bored easily, but if I do read a blog it'll be yours. Or Ishie's...

whatever, it's funny.
