Hey all, I have decided to commit to the FOM class for august 08 so I will probably see most of you around these coming years! Cheers! I look forward to meeting everyone.

Does anyone have experience with transferring into a u.s. medschool after year two? What are the stats and what does it take? I imagine it is rather difficult to do, with u.s. schools expecting transfer students wanting a non-fmg diploma. Even competition for the good residencies is stiff; the odds of transferring into another school seem similar.

I took the kaplan class and thought it was useful. As busy as I am, the structure of the class helped me stay focused, kept me on a schedule, and ensured I hit most topics. It was rather expensive, fifteen hundred, but worth it for me. If you are the type that can self-discipline well then you can do it alone. I got a hold of previous mcats plus ans keys- made good practice material.

--ps i just went and checked out interfolio. I wish I had known!! I sent stamps and address labels to my LOR writers. some of my apps weren't complete until oct because of it.

You definitely gotta do a search on this bad boy, you'll find a lot of info. I'm in the same boat as you, that is, entering SGU in aug 08, so I basically know nothing on the matter... however, from what I've read, if you do want to transfer it'll probably happen after your 2nd year and after you take your step 1 and you're gonna need to do pretty damn well on that test, have a good med school gpa, good lor's etc. etc. etc.

On top of that only a limited # of us schools will take FMG transfers, drexel probably taking most of them, maybe suny upstate, but don't expect to get into Harvard or Cornell no matter how good you do, I think they only take kids from LCME accredited schools... but a search will help you out there, and AAMC has a site that tells you what schools will and will not take a FMG student.

undergrad gpa and mcat will count as well, if you had under 3.0 you probably have no chance, and under 30 mcat you probably don't have a real good shot either, but i read on SDN about some people getting interviews so that's better than nothing.

soooo I hope this wasn't all rubbish, see you in the fall

Same here, I loved it. Their jokes were a little corny but overall the info was great. The files I have are about 720 MB, kinda tough to share.

What type of file is it? You can use file compression software and email it. A program called winzip which I believe is free on cnet.com will compress the file to an email-able size.

A file that big will only be compressed with winzip in your wildest dreams unfortunately!

well technically you cud split the file into 75 files (using winrar or zip), each of which is 10 MB and send out 75 emails... but unless u know how to batch send emails and batch recieve emails and batch extract... you are out of luck

or we cud set up a torrent and then people could just download it and we can get into all sorts of wonderful copywrite issues

Yeah, lately too many people in my area have been getting busted by their ISP's in my area, so I try to stay off bittorrent for the most part. You probably can find them on there though.
