I think DO students do not go into the same match as MD students, I think they have their own match program with their own residencies open for DO students, if DO students want to apply for an MD residency then they have to take the USMLE in addition to the COMLEX.
That's true...I think it's a 50/50 split between allopathic and osteopathic residencies though. Don't quote me on that.

I used to say that too...

Until I saw this from a DO school... which is to DO schools what SGU is the Carribean sort of. I'm not sure if it's the best but it's one of the better ones.

Take a look at that.

Hi:

I was wondering if anyone know that does SGU refund your $1000 deposit if you decided not to attend. Thanks!

umm, am i supposed to be impressed with that list???

i mean if you are only looking at the MD residency spots, they are mostly community programs for IM, peds, and anesthesia- not many university programs, one impressive radiology uni program, and the university programs i saw were for neurology and family- not competitve areas and generally those programs are IMG friendly as well.

plus its 4 years old....

Well this is what I was talking about earlier. The vast majority of the students going into allopathic residencies went into primary care while many of the more competitive specialties were osteopathic residencies. One of the reasons osteopathic residencies are typically regarded as lower quality than their allopathic counterparts because most of the osteopathic residencies are in community hospitals. I think the only (2 or 3) allopathic surgery matches were preliminary (instead of categorical). Other than that I think I saw maybe 3 spots in gas and the rest of the allo matches were predominantly FP/IM with EM and Psych sprinkled in for good measure.

Anyway I think DO is a fine option and there a some very good schools and all that. However I don't think this particular match list is above average. I really don't think I'd apply to an osteopathic residency.

Can you get the date extended? They only gave me a week to decide!

If you don't mind my asking, is there a specific reason as to why you are not sure if you want to go to SGU (to pay the deposit)? Are you still waiting to hear from other schools?
Concerning about getting your deposit date pushed back, I had asked one school to do that for me and they very rudely told me that they would not. Another was willing to wait. However, both schools were in Poland.

yeah i'm waiting on G-town masters program, but even if I get in I would probably go to SGU anyway and not miss out on a year or potentially 2 or 3.
