I heard of my acceptance this past friday and i was one of those people who applied back in august and interviewed in december. the commitee sure took their time deciding and I like those who are in the same boat was pissed. i had applied to a couple of schools before i heard from st. georges and i let my advisor know about it, but that didn't seem to help. so i guess it depends on who the advisor is.
Proteinpowda, contact your advisor maybe they sent you the wrong letter too. i just can't believe that they would not take you with a 31 on the mcats. good luck with this. truly, my heart goes out to you.

Wow, that is pretty unbelievable!!! Did your interview not go so well? I actually talked to the head of the ad. com. at an open house and he told me that the two most important aspects of your application for SGU is your interview and your LORs. It still seems kind of strange that they can ignore a 31 though!

proteinpowda....you can't be serious. I hope they give you a very, very good reason.

There can't be any hope for my app now.....

im not surprised. while a 31 is an awesome score, but it is still a multiple choice exam, and the best gauge of a person and his ability to be a physician is probably based on LOR and Interviews

and also since SGU is receiving so many apps these past few yrs, i guess they are really perhaps emphasize more on the LOR and intervews as im sure many applicants have a great gpa and mcat score now

best of luck to you guys.

I'm dead serious...
Maybe a few bad grades here and there? My letters were pretty good....The Doc I work with is SGU Alumni and wrote one.
The interview seemed to go well...
Hmmm maybe lack of leadership or research... I don't have a ton of volunteering work either.

Yeah...I'm lacking in volunteering but only because my parents don't give me money so I'm pretty much forced to work so I can pay my bills and such.

However...I still think you should call you admissions counselor....they at least owe you an explanation.

I'm in the same boat...I worked during school too and put myself through college....I would've thought they would have looked favorably upon that...

And in reply to the other post about the MCAT scores...
Statistically it's the BEST predictor of Step 1 performance..it pretty much removes the need to even use GPA's...I can reference the study if you want. And it's the only universal measure of candidates that adcoms have so don't take it so lightly. It won't neccessarily make you a great doctor but it'll give you a good board score....and SGU always like to reference their step 1 performance..

Yeah the lack of leadership and research can be the reason. I am sure you know this but big part of being a doctor is have leadership capability [since you would be working with or leading a team]. But the letter from SGU alumni should have helped a lot, esp since he is a doctor [unless he screwed you over.]

for sure mcat and other standardized tests are whats used.
just a guess here, but when sgu gets a massive amount of apps and im sure many will have stellar stats, they need something else to separate who they will accept or reject, and the only thing left is LOR and interviews or perhaps even the essay.

the same probably in residency when many apps have great usmle scores, something else needs to be the deciding factor.

i dont think it was your mcat score, bc if it was i dont think you would even have gotten an interview , as mcat and other standardized tests are used in the 1st filtering process.

but i do wish you best of luck. call bay shore and ask them what was wrong with your app and file
