I don't know if I should try for SGU right now or not. So I am debating whether I should apply and see what happens, or whether I should take the MCATs again and shoot for January admissions.

Are you graduating from undergrad in May?? If you are...I suggest you retake your MCAT (it's below SGU's average) and go for a US school. If you can score a 30+ (or 28....depending on your state of residence) you might fare well in the US admissions process. SGU is always going to be there and it is a great school....but if you stand a chance for US admissions....take it.

hey brainteazer07.........from what I understand from talking to the person that interviewed me, a 21 is too low to be accepted into SGU.......however, if you can get an interview you could qualify for their foundations in medicine program which you can start in August and is a semester long......then, if you do well in that program you can start at SGU in January of 09'........the good thing about this program is that you will have an advantage when you do start because you will not only be academically ready but will also have time to adjust to the island.......this would be a good option if you are in a hurry to start medical school.....if you can stand waiting, then take the MCAT again and good luck!

Why would you chose choose St. James or Ross over SGU? Or why did you apply to St. James instead of AUC?

Good question. St. James, although it may be a respectable school (don't know much about it) is no where near the top 3 or 4 Caribbean schools.

Likewise Ross is currently a distant 2nd when compared to SGU, due in part to shortages in clinical spots.

Monday I find out if I got into my state school or not.. I'm a nervous wreck. It's been about 3 months since my interview and still I've heard nothing from SGU.
I hate to say this but I was just going over DO match lists...and for at least the one school I looked at it was quite a bit better than SGU's. For some reason I always thought SGU would be a bit higher on the pecking order since it's entering stats are better.....that's something I'll have to consider.
I'm 24...is it worth waiting another year.....That depends on whether or not I can find something really cool to do.
