I need some opinions. with this MCAT score and my grades and extracurricular, I feel i have a strong chance of acceptance in a texas school next year if I were to apply.
This is the hard part, would you guys advise me to sit out one year from SGU and apply, or just suck it up and go to SGU? I'm pretty set on starting med school already, but just want to get opinions. Thanks
you know what i'm gonna say, but gonna say it anyway....try for the tx schools... and apply to sgu for the same time period...if you get in to a US school, it will be well worth the wait of a year...and if you don't get in, well sgu isn't going anywhere, and its only a year...WELL worth it!!

do note, its the SGU students that are telling to wait and try for the US schools...8K is nuthin compared to the expenses you will incur as an IMG....and i would apply to more than 30 schools- shotgun it EVERYWHERE and do it early - your AMCAS should be complete and uploaded DAY ONE!!

i've already sat out a year, and have been accepted to sgu for aug 08 already. it is very hard for me to sit out another year, with no guarantee that i can get in to a US school. I'll just have to sit on it.

Thats pretty much how I feel, this past application cycle was my second and I really do not want to sit out for another year, so i decided to just plan on attending SGU for this fall while waiting to see if I get off the waitlist for two of my state schools. Whatever you decide, if you work hard, only the sky is the limit to what you can achieve.

Is it an option to start at SGU Aug. 08, apply to US schools for next year. If you don't get into US you didn't waste a year. Worst case you get a seat in US and need to make a decision to repeat 1 yr or not. Big drawback would be expense but it may be worth it to you if you don't want to sit out another year.

All the best with your decision.

Agreed, I'm ready to do 2 years and a step 1, and then start med school all over again... is that nuts? Besides the money and a couple of "wasted" years, how stupid would I be to go with this. haha thanks

I think your answer lies in where you want to specialize. If you want FM or IM, do you need to transfer? If you are set on a competitive specialty than you aren't "nuts".

All the best with your decision.

Well....depending on your age...when you think about it...sitting out for a year or two is nothing in the scheme of things.

I was set on going to SGU or Ross....but I spoke with many, many people and I realized that I really do want to try again for a US school and I'm ok with sitting out for a year or two...I'm only 21.

All in all...it really is a personal preference. But if you really believe that you've got a shot at TX school with your new MCAT...then go for it!! Like Rokshana said...SGU isn't going anywhere!!
