I'm the 1st one to say exhaust all your options in the US, but frankly with a 2.84 and 3.1, your option would be to go get a masters and get a 4.0 (even then it will be an uphil battle)- there was a guy who posted here earlier with a 3.8 and 30 mcat- no interviews in the US (still boggles my mind!)
and there is no guarantee that you will be able to get up to a 35 after scoring aa 29 - uunless you took that cold and got a 29. Even then a 35 these days does not write you a tix....

this is MED SCHOOL not Club Med- it is a nice environment, but it is NOT relaxing...you will work as hard (if not harder) in an off shore school.

As for far as sgu-you mcat is higher than the average, but that gpa of yours is much lower...from what the new 1st termers have posted, it will be an uphill battle here as well...maybe ross or auc- the high mcat could make up for your bad gpa.

you need to do some more research on this whole med school thing...

Hey thanks alot that masters or post back programs were my original thought GPA low due to a bad soph semester where got all C's and a D(working too much) I did apply to this post bac in Ill and got alot of internships comming in so u never know might see u soon. That MCAT I took totaly cold I mean no studying at all in fact got home the night before at 5 am and got to the test at 7:35 am. I am actually going to study for it this time just to see what I can get and where it might take me. Hope fully this interview I got with Meharry Med School and I might just take the post bac at eastern Virginia casue the almost gaurentee a seat into top MD programs I don't know but I do like St. George and some of the other Med Schools in the caribbean only cause I've been to the caribbean on some other business not vacation and being there just cleared my mind. but hit me up cause even If I do take a post bac I still might be in the caribbean anyway.

Good luck! and remember - relax! The interview is the easiest part of the entire process (or at least, it was for me.)

if you got into the post bac at EVMS, then you should take it--you are right, that is a program that is if you make As (or at least mostly As and a B+) you will get in because the only thing that will keep you from getting in there is if your MCAT is subpar or you somehow annoy the Dean of Admissions (and he is a sweetie, so you have to try really hard to get on his bad side), but don't fool your self - EVMS is a 3rd tier med school (but it is a US med school so it is better to be there than at any caribbean med school, even SGU)- i did my masters (clinical track- not the med masters) there- its a good, solid school- in fact the course director for anatomy there was an anatomy prof here at sgu!

as for the interview at meharry- this late you're interviewing for a waitlist spot at best- are you a URM? that could make a difference, but if you are not, then it will be hard to ge into meharry(or any other historically black school) with your stats.

Waiting Anxiety

I sent my application on 12/31 for August 08. Now I am waiting patiently to find out the fate of the rest of my life.

Received confirmation that all my materials were received yesterday. Heard back today that I've been approved for an interview (no date yet). Pretty impressive turnaround time.

well, i guess you're a shoe in! I got the notice that my app was complete like a week or two ago and haven't been approved for an interview. why do they bother holding on to my app longer? why don't they just send a rejection letter if they decided not to interview me? i guess it's the mail!

I think it's just timing. If you got your stuff if 12/31, they were probably busy preparing for the incoming January class then. I emailed one specific person and they said they wouldn't be able to get back to me until January 24 (today) because they would be in Grenada welcoming/orienting the new class until then. Also I'm international admissions so we could have different people working on our apps.
