Hello all I am applying for the jan 09 tem and just need some typ of insight well my GPA is 2.84c and 3.1s and when I took the MCATs I got a 29 what might my chances be on getting into a caribbean med school? I still plan on applying to U.S. schools but I really like how the Caribbean sound right now and it seems like it would be real relaxing so hit me up and let me know. one last thing I am taking the MCAT again in april because I did not try hard in AUG and got an 29 mabe if I study I could get in the mid thirties hopefully 35 will write my own ticket.

with your current stats now, you might have some trouble with sgu, but the other schools, Ross, saba, AUC, you will have a good chance.
Regarding US schools, I honestly wouldn't waste your time applying unless you are a URM or if you are applying to DO schools. Even with a 35 on the MCAT, it will be nearly impossible to get in with a 2.84c to a US MD school. DO schools are doable since they replace grades if you retake a class.

are you really that clueless or have you just had no interaction with applying to medical school?

I'm the 1st one to say exhaust all your options in the US, but frankly with a 2.84 and 3.1, your option would be to go get a masters and get a 4.0 (even then it will be an uphil battle)- there was a guy who posted here earlier with a 3.8 and 30 mcat- no interviews in the US (still boggles my mind!)
and there is no guarantee that you will be able to get up to a 35 after scoring aa 29 - uunless you took that cold and got a 29. Even then a 35 these days does not write you a tix....

this is MED SCHOOL not Club Med- it is a nice environment, but it is NOT relaxing...you will work as hard (if not harder) in an off shore school.

As for far as sgu-you mcat is higher than the average, but that gpa of yours is much lower...from what the new 1st termers have posted, it will be an uphill battle here as well...maybe ross or auc- the high mcat could make up for your bad gpa.

you need to do some more research on this whole med school thing...

Hey. This is my first post on ValueMD. Just applied to SGU for August '08. 3.35c 3.43s 30N with some great ECs. All the staff I have spoken with have said I have competitive stats; I'll post some more when I hear about interviews etc so people can see the wait times.
