Renting a Boat.

The ways in which midterm angst manifests itself is indeed mysterious, and I have this inexplicably irrepressible urge to rent a motor boat and take it out on the ocean this weekend. Now, this is something I've never done, so my questions are: Is it practically possible, economical and safe? Any ideas on the best way(s) to go about it?

Thanks.

There's plenty of ways to get out to sea...
Just depends what you're looking for and how much you're willing to spend. It's very safe and enjoyed best with a group of friends.

Here's a few places to start.
Keep in mind, the short notice will probably limit your results and maybe increase your prices.

Deepsea/Billfishing for the day:

True Blue Sportfishing
Gary has a nice boat, friendly personality, and sound knowledge.
Hopefully your weather won't be as blah as mine.

Sailing/Yacht day charter:

Day Charters
Check out charters on The Timshel. Can't go wrong with a trip up to Isle de Ronde.

If none of these suit your tastes, head down to the Grenada Yacht Club. Ask around and I'm sure you can find someone who's willing to charter their boat.

Check out Shadowfax Luxury Cruises in Grenada as well. They operate the shadowfax catamaran. Just try not to get it the same weekend I want it.

Pilot it yourself? Unless you've got some experience boating I'd recommend against it, navigation is harder than it looks, rain storms come without warning, and underwater reefs can easily chew up your propellor or the bottom of your boat if you aren't familiar with the waters.

You can charter a boat with a captain, that's the best way to do it, there are multiple options depending on whether you want to fish, booze, party, etc.
