Moving tips
Any moving tips? My girlfriend and I are moving around Aug1. We will both be attending school. Any suggested moving companies? Leave the stuff at home and buy new? How much are custom fees for electronics such as TV’s. I’ve heard high but not specific. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. I’m reading as much as I can to prepare for this exciting change. I have sooo many questions regarding life there, I cant wait... 8)

Moving
Moving companies? Are you kidding?
First of all, good tips about life in, and moving to Grenada, can be found in the SO Welcome Guide, at: http://www.geocities.com/sguso/welcome.html (A great resource for all students). Secondly, I wouldn't plan on bringing anything but clothes and a few necessity items to get started there, such as shampoo, soap, and a roll of toilet paper, till you get your bearings that first week or so. Every apartment in Grenada is fully furnished (sometimes including tv, cable, etc). If you find a place without that stuff, you can buy it off other students and sell it back to other students when you leave. Even if you pay twice what it's worth for a tv, it will probably be better than the duty alone by bringing one in. Only full-time professors bring their own furniture and whatnot, that I know of. Everything you need is there already, so don't move your life there, it's a temporary arrangement and the time flies by. Besides, if you plan to go home for summer and Christmas, there's no place to put your stuff unless you want to pay rent straight through (although some landlords make arrangements for you to store your stuff there). Bring as little as possible. You are going to a simpler life. Some natives live in shacks and shantis, so you will be able to get a different perspective on life and how shallow we are, if you travel outside of the school bus loop. Most people do fine with the 70 lb weight limit for the four months. Going back is hard with books, so sometimes people ship stuff home, but if you're into saving money and not being flagrant with it, for gosh sake, don't research international moving companies. Oh and if you do leave your stuff at home instead of selling it (weigh cost of replacement with cost of storage), look into a storage company or ideally, a parent with a large attic or basement). Good luck. |

thanks
Thanks. Thats kinda what I thought. We we not going to move anything major mainly some kitchen stuff. We are both older so were selling our house here in Vegas (or rent it out) and will live there year round untill we are done. We spent some time in rural Mexico so we do appreciate how well off we have it, even on what we would classify a meager existence.
