I flew Flyglobespan to come here originally...that was out of Hamilton Ontario. Not bad, and it was direct- I don't think they do that anymore. On my way home I flew on Air France via Paris. That leg of the flight was great, what killed me was passing through NYC when I had to cross over to Delta...Delta sucks

Any Canadians apply for LOC
HI, I just got in last sec I guess for the GSP program Aug 2008. I'm from the GTA and looking into applying for an LOC via RBC or TD Canadatrust (my parents and I bank there)...I'm just wondering if any Canadians got one already and if so how long it takes to process and if you had any hassles getting it? From what I understand not all bank managers know what it is and not all banks recognize foreign medical schools? If so what branches are best to go to? Also, I'm sure you have to get a cosigner for it, but was anyone able to sign without one?

they will recognize it, since they use the guide for international schools that OSAP uses. Don't tell them its the GSP just say its SGU in Grenada. Otherwise you WILL have problems since that is not on their list.
Make sure its Prime rate and you will need a cosigner. Also you still have time, so it is not a big deal. And apply for OSAP since they will give you some change to play with.

Hey, thanks for the response! Already put my OSAP app through. I'll find out tomorrow how it goes for the LOC. Anyone know if it's possible to get a guarantor instead of a cosigner, i.e. this way my parents won't be tied down to the loan, by being equal signers on it? This way if they wanted to sell the house or take out another loan etc. my loan wouldn't be held against them? Seems most people recommend RBC, anyone go with any other banks?

Okay just a little update...I was working with my local TDCanadaTrust branch to submit my application for an LOC...and it appears that they only approve $37,500 (1/4) of the $150,000 and each year you have to apply every year for each additional installment, regardless if I have a cosigner or not...is this how it works with other banks such as RBC? For those with LOC's elsewhere did they approve the $150,000 right away and just limit you to taking $37,500 per year OR did you have to apply each year for $37,500 as TD is telling me...this option sounds like such a hassle especially as I may not be back in Toronto at the end of every year!
