by the way tin i realized you asked me about california residencies recently. you asked about the california letter. the reason i didn't reply was because i didnt apply to any programs in cali. didn't want to do the california letter thing... since i have no geographic interest in the area. also imagine travelling from NY how much a plane ticket alone would cost you to interview there...

That program in Orlando has a low opinion on SGU and I didn't even bother applying there. There are a few programs that bashed SGU during my interview and I even wondered what I was doing there

Are you interviewing for surgery this year or have you matched already?

I applied there, they paid no attention to me and then I called and the program director gave me an interview. We live and learn...

This might be a little of subject but here goes.

If you rank 14 schools (A-N), and A-M (your top 13) don't rank you, but program N (14) ranks you No.1, you still go to program N ahead of everyone else that may have ranked program N as their Number 1,2,3 choice right?

Yes - because they ranked you number one and because no one else ranked you from your list.

no its a little more complicated than that.
if there is a student that ranked Program N higher than you did AND the program ranked that student HIGHER than you (say you ranked #15 on the program's list and the other student was ranked #10 on the program's list) and there is only one unfilled spot left---it will go to the OTHER student- because they were the more desirable student AND the program was more desirable tohe student (say the other student ranked the program 5 instead of 15).

the nrmp has a very good explanation of this with a nice example.

He/she mentioned that program N would be ranking him/her #1 in the scenario.

the match is supposed to be student centric, so he mentioned that other students would rank the program as THEIR 1,2, or 3 program- THEY would get the program over the person who ranks it #15- or so its suppose to work.

well it doesn't matter what number you ranked the program... as long as you are higher on their rank list... there is no harm done by ranking how you really desire a particular program.
