To clarify: Grand Anse housing for first termer

I will be a first term SGU med student, and just got placed in a double at Grand Anse. I did a few searches and was unable to successfully determine whether or not the rooms would be equipped with wired LAN/eth capabilities or if internet would only be available using WiFi.

Can anybody clarify this for me or perhaps send me to a link where I can find this information?

    Thanks.

I would be very surprised if you have internet at Grand Anse. Nobody lived there last term and the only reason students are living there this term is because 5th/6th term is going to be in Grenada instead of St. Vincent.

just asked my friend who lived at Grand Anse not last term, but the term before that. She said they had internet downstairs in the study room and sometimes in the hallway. Not in the rooms.

Hmm, thanks for that info. Other than that, is it just about the same as in the super dorms (in terms of kitchen, etc)

there are no kitchens in the room as far as I recall. There is a "kitchen" in a common area outside right next to the 2 buildings which has stoves/ovens I believe. There are also women who cook there and sell food. I am sure someone else can explain it better.

The rooms in Grand Anse I have been to are like this. You walk in and the bathroom is to your left. It has the toilet and shower. You come out of the bathroom and still on the left is a sink, counter and mirror. You walk more further and there are 2 beds seperated by a bookshelf type thing against the wall. There are also 2 desks opposite the bookshelf. Then there is the blacony door. Oh yeah and there is a mini refrigerator also. I would describe the hallways as a motel.

I think that the Grand Anse rooms are more spacier than the superdorms, probably because there is a kitchen in the superdorm and smaller beds I would think.

Last semester they took away the stoves/ovens from the common area but maybe they will return them since students will be living there again.

    lol...no

the GA dorms are the oldest buildings of the sgu campus- they were the original campus in fact. And before that it was a hotel, so the rooms are like hotel rooms- no kitchen. People can rent refrigerators and they usually are on the balcony.

On the plus side, the rooms are WAY bigger than the SDs and you are right on grand anse beach.

The Ladies BTW make some great food- esp taco night on weds!

You can always go to housing when you get down there and ask to be put on the waiting list for True Blue housing- things do open up.

But I'll have to admit, the people i know who lived at GA really liked it and are still very close friends- their is a bonding experience that goes with living at GA.

Oh and make sure you take the AC option!! Its worth it!!

I lived in Grand Anse for the first 3 weeks before Ivan hit. I loved it. The rooms are huge compared to the superdorms. You can purchase a hot plate and microwave to use to cook in your room. If you want internet, you can get your own connection through Cable and Wireless.

You can get a weak wireless connection if you are lucky and get a dorm near the study room (though don't expect it to be that reliable)

Other than that, the GA dorms are great. Everything is nearby (grocery, beach, food places etc), and the rooms are bigger than the superdorms (still cramped and kinda old, but eh). The only downside is that it takes 20 minutes to get to/from campus, and there usually is a rush for buses to get home in the evening (4:45p to 5:30p). In case anyone doesn't know, SGU Buses are free for students/staff and (should) run every 20 minutes on the GA/TB route.
