Fair enough. Although I imagine issues as fundamental as licensure would've been sorted out before the program started accepting students.
In any case, a few updates would be nice to calm our nerves. I, along with other GSP students feel like I'm holding my breath waiting on atleast SOME news. Even just a quick email would go a long way. |

To be frank, this would be an incredibly poor reflection on SGU, if the facts are as presented here - a whole class starting in the UK and NOW they are finding out there is a problem with licensure??? Maybe there's another side to the story................... hope so.

I agree, if they could have at least worn the students. It in no way is up to the student to figure this out. I don't know if you guys got the same email I got from them once I indicated interset in GSP. It was a word format paper with Q&A. One of which asked about praciing medicine in the States. And the stated that GSP students are elgible to practice in all 50 states. They just typed up this paper with out checking out the legal aspects of licenssing. If anything the 60 students out in England have a defent leverage for a class action law suit. This primarly becuase SGU put it in writing that they can practice in all 50 states. here is an actual piece of that document.. This is why I am so fustrated by this whole thing. check it out:
Other countries: SGU stressed to the GMC that this program is specifically designed for students from developing countries to receive a quality medical education and then return to their home countries to assist in the healthcare delivery system there. Each country has its own guidelines for the licensure or registration of doctors. We have many years experience with many countries. For instance, SGU has graduates practicing medicine in many countries in Africa; our graduates are known worldwide. Students should indicate the country in which they will seek to practice medicine upon graduation and SGU can begin to understand the registration process for that country, if we don’t already know it. United States: We recognize that many US students have expressed an interest in this program and wish to devote some of their time as physicians practicing medicine in a developing country. For these students, please note that graduates of SGUSOM are licensed in all 50 states; the overwhelming majority of our 6,400 graduates are practicing in the US. On another note, is it easier, harder, or impossible to transfer to a state school if we go to the GSP program? Provided that we have stats that are "average" for US schools.
I'm thinking that this might solve the licensing row for some of us (even though transferring to a US schools is always a remote possibility). |

Transfering is almost impossible Haterade... Schools like Drexel have over accpetd the number of students cause of thier Grad school program that they messed up and are even asking some student to take a year of and begin the following year for a discoutn of tituition. Transfering shouldnt be viewed as an option. No one is mad that you cant get alicenss in all 50 states, we are just mad that they worte otherwise on a formal paper and that they are keeping the rest of the student in the dark and not asnwering quirrie we have

my take is that since there is nothing clearly against the gsp students from being licensed and that there is a gray area that could be worked out and since it really isn't an issue for at least another 3-4 years that it could be worked out. I agree though, if you are intending on practicing in the US, you should just take it that at this point you may have difficulty in getting licensed in these states and just go the GND route instead of GSP.

It is something in gray.. but guess what some of us would like some info from the school. Also they have not offered us the option to go to Grenada. They said (actually we heard from facebook group... not from the school directly) that if you want to go Grenada.. the class is full but you can put in a request for January start day... and take your chances. At the end.. the school has to provide these answers and these suggestion.. and without being rude.. not you or someone else on VMD. Last edited by CANeh; 07-25-2007 at 05:46 PM. |

Hi everyone! I just spoke to my advisor and she told me that a letter went out today to all GSP Aug '07 students regarding the CA and NJ licensing issue. I, being a Jan '08 student did not receive it, has anyone else received it?
