Term I Class Schedule

I know that Term I is composed of 5 classes: Gross Anatomy, Biochem, Clinical Skills, Histology, and Embryology. Would a former term 1er give the breakdown about what times s/he had each class, e.g., on Monday, at 8 AM, I had this. . . Would you be doing the tutoring every day? The classes are large, but are there sections? Any positive feedback is much appreciated. If this has been spoken about, kindly provide a link. Thank you. Have a great day.

Only BRS worth getting is Anatomy. Get Rohen's Atlas, though. It has real photos of cadavers, rather than illustrations (like Netter's). A lot of the slides you'll get on your practical will either come straight from Rohen's or be similar to them. Surgery Club will provide it free with lifetime membership, so sign up for it early next term.

First, Clinical Skills is not a class, it is a major annoyance that you have to attend every few weeks.

Second, 1st term classes are all held in the afternoons with the labs in the mornings. So, you will have Gross Lab twice a week and Histo lab once a week (your last name will provide the group breakdown).

Third, there are no "sections" (and I'm assuming you mean this from a large university perspective). There are occasional small group sessions in Biochem, but it hardly constitutes a true "discussion section" of a large-sized class.

Fourth, the classes that you have on any given afternoon will alter from term-to-term and day-to-day since the professors will be teaching different subjects, but it will generally be from 1.00 pm until 5.00.

Finally, there is not one BRS book that you could possibly need in first term. Rohen's is definitely good to get for anatomy (the picture atlas), but the BRS's are often out of touch with our professors' notes and test questions, so just head to lecture and know the notes.

Thanks for your comments! Biochem and Embryo have no labs? Are there classes every day Mon-Fri?

you study for the most part- how much or how little is up to you and your needs- some people can run through the material once and be done with it- for me the magic number is three times.

there parties thrown by different clubs, generally around the beginning of the term, at mid term and at the end of the term- problem is that the terms overlap their beginning, middle, and ends, so there are parties generally throughout the term. Some people can get sucked in going to all of them, and then don't spend enough time studying and are dommed to repeat....

i usuallly took took a couple of hours off after classes ended (to eat, run errands, etc)and then started to study around 7 til about 12 or 1, took about an hour to decompress and get ready for bed. I took friday night and sat off (unless it was closer to exam time, then just took fri night off), then studied Sunday through Thursday.

Typically spent the evening after class going through what was covered in class that day and pre reading for the next day. Sunday was for reviewing over what was done the previous week. Closer to the exam- a couple of weeks before or so- would start reviewing the material to be covered on the exam and did questions.

Personally I thought the Anatomy BRS was garbage (but that could just be me). I thought the Biochem BRS was helpful in seeing the general ideas (although lippincott is just as good). I'd have to agree with some of the others and say that no BRS are really THAT useful...

Anatomy BRS was great for questions and clinical correlations. The actual information is very condensed (more like bullet pts) so is ok for quick referencing but not for understanding.

Lectures Mon-Fri 1-5pm

Mornings:
Histo lab once aweek ~2 hours
Anatomy lab once a week ~2 hours (tue or thur)
Anatomy discussion once a week ~2 hours (tue or thur when u do not have anatomy lab)
Living anatomy 1.5 hrs, 5 sessions total
Clinical skills (can't really remember how many sessions but enough to be annoying )
Biochem ~4 small group discussions total 2hrs each

Time management is very important bcause they sqeeeze in as many activities as they can into the schedule.

Good luck.

Weeping, drinking, then weeping again.

BRS Anatomy does have some good clinical correlations but the Moore blue boxes are better and have pictures/diagrams. I used to wonder why everyone thought Chung was poor, then I got the High Yield Anatomy book and it's significantly better. Don't think it will help for the course though.
